Television director - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In a dramatic production, the television director's role can be similar to that of a film director, giving cues to actors and telling the operator of the videotape recorder when to start and stop recording.
In a television series comprised of individual episodes, the television director's role may differ from that of a film director in that he or she may work only on some episodes as opposed to being the auteur of the entire production.

Television reporters, as a rule, are required to work on a wider variety of stories and have the opportunity to develop much less expertise and fewer sources in a specific topical area than is generally true of their newspaper counterparts.
Television has been found to place a greater emphasis than newspapers on the reporter as an integral, inseparable part of the story, who, by his or her physical and vocal presence, embodies the story (Peer and Chestnut, 1995).
Television news directors were also slightly more likely than newspaper editors to say they looked for evidence that applicants has been members of student professional organizations such as Radio and Television News Directors Association or the Society of Professional Journalists as a measure of their commitment to professionalism (Figure 2).

 The Television Director
Film directors usually have most of the creative control, but in television this control tends to be more in the hands of the producer.
Although this is not always the case, the television director can be thought of more as someone who molds the show into the package requested by the producer, as opposed to someone who stamps their own feel on the production.
Live television shows and outside broadcasts require a style of directing in which a constant stream of instructions is given by the director as the show progresses.
