	World Stadiums - Stadium Design :: Telstra Stadium in Sydney
		Telstra Stadium, initially named Stadium Australia, was the centrepiece of the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney.
		The stadium presents two main tribunes that are covered by a huge roof that is constructed from translucent polycarbonate.
		The roof was extended to cover the lower parts too and consequently the entire stadium was covered by a roof having the shape of a saddle.

	Telstra Stadium - History
		Telstra Stadium was officially opened in 1999 more than a year ahead of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.
		Primarily designed as the main Stadium and centrepiece of the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Telstra Stadium was the jewel in a major urban renewal project unveiled in what is now known as Sydney Olympic Park.
		The open tiered upper stands at the north and south ends of the Stadium were demolished and the lower stands were moved closer to the centre of the ground by 15 metres.

		The stadium has had major redevelopment work done throughout 2001 and 2002 to reduce the size and convert the playing field into an oval shape to enable Australian Football to be played.
		Telstra, the major Australian communications company, purchased the rights to Stadium Australia in July 2002 for exclusive naming rights of the stadium until 2009 with further options, they also purchased the rights to Melbourne's Colonial Stadium which is now the Telstra Dome.
		Telstra Stadium is located in 17km west of Sydney’s CBD, and 8km from Parramatta.

		The band's March 31 show at Sydney's 70,000 seat Telstra Stadium sold-out within an hour of the 'Vertigo 06' tour date going on sale, while a further 55,000 were sold in Melbourne to sell out the Telstra Dome by early afternoon.
		The band's Ericsson Stadium show in Auckland, New Zealand, on March 17 has also sold out.

		I was at the Friday night concert, and although I was far up the back in the seating section where I could barely make out the figures on stage, it is by far one of the best experiences of my life!
		I thought the whole event was so well organised and although we had to stand in a massive crowd for over an hour and a half waiting for a train after the show, everyone seemed very calm and patient.
		U2 are deffinatly the greatest band on the planet.
