The largest island in the group is Nendo (505.5 sq km, highest point 549 m, population over 5000), followed by Vanikoro (173.2 sq km, population 800, which is actually two islands, Banie and its small neighbor Tevai) and Utupua (69.0 sq km, highest point 380 m, population 300).
Lata, located on Nendo, is the largest town, and the capital of Temotu province.
The term Santa Cruz Islands is sometimes used to encompass all of the islands of the present-day Solomon Islands province of Temotu, q.v.

Temotu is known for its good taro varieties and also for the absence of taro diseases like alomae, bobone and taro leaf blight.
On Temotu, each of the 46 varieties was planted in a polythene bag well before the show and five suckers with the corm were laid alongside each bag with the name of the variety.
In Temotu the taros were sold to farmers in the late afternoon as tubers and suckers ready for planting.

Generally, my understanding is that, TSL is the business arm of Temotu Province, and as such, M.V Temotu, being a commercial undertaking of TSL, should be governed by its policy, should there be one in place.
For a number of months and years now M.V Temotu has not been providing shipping services to the people of Temotu Province, strangely because what had transpired from TSL management was that the vessel was not in a sea worthy condition.

TEMOTU Football Association will not participate in the national under-14 tournament which kicks-off in Honiara from October 12-19, 2002.

There is only one able airfield in Temotu Province, which is located on the main Island called Nendo or Nendi Island.
The airfield is located next to the capital village of Temotu Province: Lata  If you charter a plane, it should be possible to fly to Lata, Temotu.
She has a very nice house western amenities, probably satellite TV, lots of books etc. The island is very well ventilated, so air conditioning is not needed.

The radio in Anuta has a battery that is not workable anymore and also Tikopia the radio is not working so when the cyclone struck there was no means of communication at all from the two islands....I suspect that there maybe some casualties.

 Solomon Islands: A logistical challenge
Following surveys late last year to assess the needs of people displaced by fighting, ICRC staff last week carried out a relief distribution for some 1,000 families living in two provinces of the Solomon Islands: Temotu, about 700 kilometres east of the capital Honiara, and Rennell and Bellona to the south.
To help displaced people regain their self-sufficiency, tarpaulins, jerrycans, fishing lines and hooks, seeds and agricultural tools were packaged into family kits and transported by ship to these isolated islands (the voyage to Temotu takes over 60 hours).
The only way to get around the small island of Bellona is on foot or on a bicycle, and the only link with the outside world is by radio.

It said a tropical disturbance watch advice is still in force for the Malaita Outer Islands, Rennell-Bellona, Makira and Temotu.
