Learn more about Temperature in the online encyclopedia.   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-18)
In physics, temperature is the physical property of a system which underlies the common notions of "hot" and "cold"; generally the material with the higher temperature is said to be hotter.
Temperature is an intrinsic property of a system, meaning that it does not depend on the system size or the amount of material in the system.
The temperature 0 K is called absolute zero and corresponds to the point at which the molecules and atoms have the least possible thermal energy.

 Hot/Cold
A play partner has recently expressed an interest in playing with hot wax and other extremes of temperature, but I'm worried about the safety of this kind of play.
Fire play with burning alcohol is also an advanced technique, and should be avoided until you have learned the skill from someone more experienced.
Temperature play with cold can be particularly wicked, because it is easy for a bottom to confuse hot and cold sensations.

 Sensei's Library: Temperature
Generally speaking, a gote play lowers the local temperature and a sente play raises it, while if the local temperature stays the same, the play is ambiguous.
When both a local play by either player and its gote response are hotter than the ambient temperature, the play is double sente.
If two gote plays have the same size (in other words, if they are miai), then their combined temperature is lower than the local temperature of either one.

Wax play - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Wax play is a form of sensual play involving warm or hot wax usually dripped from candles or ladled onto a person's naked skin.
Wax play may be combined with other BDSM or sexual activity.
A flea comb or a sharp knife may be necessary for wax removal; use of a knife for this purpose requires special skills, though an expired credit card can work as well.

Climate Change 2001: Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability
For northwestern South America, monthly mean air temperature records show a warming of 0.5-0.8°C for the last decade of the 20th century (Pabón, 1995a; Pabón et al., 1999; Quintana-Gomez, 1999).
In several cities in southern and southeastern Brazil, studies on long-term tendencies for air temperature, from the beginning of the 20th century, have indicated warming tendencies (Sansigolo et al., 1992).
Data since the beginning of the 20th century do not show a clear tendency in mean temperature in the southern cone, but there is a decrease in the thermal range.

Designing a HACCP Plan For Shell Egg Processing Plants   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-18)
Egg temperature (initial and throughout processing and storage), and wash water pH and temperature play key roles in reducing microbial growth in shell eggs, and should be key in developing a HACCP plan for shell egg processing plants.
Egg temperatures at processing reflect initial internal temperatures generally, because eggs are brought into the processing plants (where the processing plant is adjacent to production facilities) internal egg temperatures range generally from 88 to 96 F (31.1 to 35.6 C) when they reach the processing area.
At this point the surface temperature of the egg reaches approximately 95 F. Anderson et al (1992) found that the internal temperature of eggs continues to rise due to high shell surface temperatures and candling lights.

08.16.2004 - Vibrations in crystal lattice plays big role in high temperature superconductors
A ceramic high temperature superconductor is actually a very poor metal, almost an insulator, at room temperature because electrons interact only slightly with the solid lattice (top), as represented by a slight depression in the crystal lattice.
High temperature superconductors are almost always some type of copper oxide (cuprate) ceramic doped with a variety of elements, from bismuth, yttrium and lanthanum to strontium and calcium.
The complex crystal structure of Bi-2212, a typical cuprate ceramic high temperature superconductor, showing two distinct alternating layers: the copper oxide layer (purple is copper, brown is oxygen) and the bismuth oxide layer (green is bismuth), interspersed with atoms of calcium (pink) and strontium (orange).

The responsible microbes (various bacteria and fungi) are reliably present in almost all organic materials, and the physical and chemical requirements for initiating the process, while not stringent, are required in a crucial and balanced form.
Temperature represents a potential driving force for the transfer of heat energy.
The self-induced temperature increase characteristic of the Enviromix™ Bioconversion Process is at first favorable to heat generation and other manifestations of microbial activity (positive feedback), but in the absence of deliberate heat removal (and assuming that oxygen is not severely limited), temperature generally becomes unfavorably high, suppressing heat generation (negative feedback).

Temperature data loggers play crucial role for MoD: News from Signatrol
Temperature data loggers from Signatrol are playing a crucial role in helping the Medical Supplies Agency validate their packaging methods used in the transportation of blood products for the MOD.
The packaging method is designed to maintain the required temperature for up to 48 hours and the consignment under test has a SL150 logger placed directly in one of the outer bags in order to measure the temperature profile at a predetermined point within the carton.
In addition to being used to monitor temperatures of blood during transit, the MSA also use the loggers to validate their fridges for storing blood products and their blood plasma freezers.

Temperature rise due to laser irradiation is a function of the optical properties of tissue which themselves are a function of temperature of the tissue.
