U.C. Berkeley Excavations at El Hibeh
The rest of the temple was overrun with halfa grass, growing between the temple stones and making the temple walls all but invisible in the front and middle parts of the structure.
The area that had been treated on the large, standing block looked dry, but other parts of the stone were damp, indicating that the cycle of wetting and drying that mobilized the salts in the blocks was continuing to occur (Figure 10).
It became clear from monitoring both the water table in the temple and the water level in the irrigation canals of the banana grove that lies directly adjacent to the tell to the east and south of the temple, that there was a direct relationship between the two.

In the Mut Temple itself, it was probably Ramesses II who added a stone facing to the south side of the temples' mud brick second pylon and new inscriptions and reliefs to the walls of the second court.
This temple is on the same plan as Ramesses III's temple in the Amun precinct and bears on its outer walls the remains of the king's depictions of his Syrian and Libyan wars.
The temple consists of an entrance pylon which is fronted by a kiosk of Tahraqa, followed by a court with eight central columns, which in turn is followed by a second pylon and an inner court with Hathor pillars and Sekhmet statues.

The temple of Yeha is one of those places in the world that have been holy to man for ages.
This temple, built between the 4th and 6th centuries BCE and nearly 800 years before most buildings remaining at Axum, Matara, or Teconda, was easily the oldest known standing structure in Ethiopia.
A small frieze, illustrated at the beginning of this chapter, depicting the heads and fore legs of six ibexes was imbedded in the wall of the church.

The temple blocks are typically a set of five hollow wooden (or hard plastic) blocks of different sizes with a slit through the middle.
Although temple blocks are not considered pitched nstruments, they can produce discernable pitches, and some temple blocks are actually tuned to the pentatonic scale.
Most often, however, a composer will not indicate which temple block to strike, only which note should be higher in pitch.

 Tell Tebilla 05
Previous discoveries of monumental remains from the temple included four private votive statuettes, such as a Late Period, seated statuette of a nobleman (found by the SCA in the 1998), which would have been dedicated to the temple and placed in its outer court or along the processional way leading to the temple.
An examination of contemporary temple precincts reveals enclosures that measure at least double to ten times larger than the area of the inner temple, which initially suggested that the Tebilla temple may have had an enclosure measuring up to 60-75 metres by 60-75 metres.
Her discovery places the minimum size of Tebilla’s Late Period temple complex at around 25% of the size of the irregularly-shaped temple enclosure (around 450 by 650 metres) at the provincial capital at Mendes (12 km to the south).

As long as this unfortunate arrangement remains the same, the temple blocks will continue to suffer not only from the ever greater amount of vegetation, but also from the much more damaging effects of an endless cycle of wetting and drying associated with local irrigation.
For when wet, the limestone blocks of the temple absorb the minerals and salts in the groundwater which in turn cause their surfaces to flake and fracture when dry.
During the 2001 season, three of the temple blocks in various states of disrepair were selected to determine if the application of a consolidant might provide a temporary solution to the problem.

Temple Square is a ten acre (40,000 m²) area located in Salt Lake City, Utah, owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Mormon or LDS Church).
In 1917, an administration building was built on the block east of the temple, to be followed in 1972 by the twenty-eight story LDS Church Office Building, which was, for many years, the tallest building in the state of Utah.
Temple Square is surrounded by a high, granite wall that was built shortly after the block was designated for the building of the temple.

Part of its appeal lies in its accessibility: three city blocks in downtown Salt Lake City contain nearly 20 attractions related to Mormon pioneer history and genealogy, including the Salt Lake Temple, the Tabernacle, and the Family History Library.
The massive granite edifice was constructed in a neo-gothic style over the course of an astounding 40-year period between 1853 and 1893; the pioneers who settled the valley sacrificed both time and material goods to the building of the temple, which stands as a testament to their faith and devotion.
Please be aware that only members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are permitted to enter the temple, but all visitors are welcome to peruse the grounds and admire the stunning workmanship of the building and the serene beauty of its immediate surroundings.

The temple was also built to commemorate two deceased brothers, sons of a Nubian chieftain, who were revered by the local population as saints.
The temple had to be dismantled and removed from its place in 1963 because the waters of the Nile rising behind the new Aswan High Dam would otherwise have submerged it.
Two years later, in 1965, the government of Egypt offered the temple to the United States in its dismantled state in recognition for the aid America had provided toward saving a number of Nubian temples doomed to be permanently flooded by the construction of the High Dam.

The Sphinx Temple builders probably cut the large limestone blocks for the core of the temple walls (so-called "core blocks") from the lowest layers of Member II of the Sphinx quarry.

The abandoned blocks and the interruption of work on the north edge suggest that the Sphinx and Sphinx Temple were the final elements in Khafre’s building project and were never completed.
