A few buildings were converted into churches, including the Curia, the Temple of Antoninus and Faustina and the Temple of Divus Romulus; the rest was left to shepherds and their animals, to the extent that the popular name of the area became Campo Vaccino, the cattle field.
New religious buildings included the Temple of Antoninus and Faustina and the Temple of Vespasian and Titus.

 CLARK COLLECTION OF ANCIENT ART
Antoninus built a temple out of love for his wife, and after her death, which was deeply mourned throughout the empire, he even declared her a goddess, as noted on the reverse of this coin.
Notes: This coin was struck in honor of either Faustina the Elder, wife of Antoninus Pius (reigned 138-161 CE), or Faustina the Younger, wife of Marcus Aurelius (reigned 161-180 CE).
The reason is that her husband, emperor Antoninus Pius, had millions of these coins minted after her death.

 RIC_0381b.1.txt
Annia Galeria Faustina, daughter of Marcus Annius Verus, married a young man (Titus Aurelius Fulvus Boionius Antoninus) between 110-115 A.D. Two decades later, he became Rome's Emperor, and the Senate honored her with the title of Augusta.
A sentimental issue, struck after she died in 141 A.D., and before her daughter, also named Faustina, was given the title of Augusta, in 147, upon the birth of her first child.
Unfortunately, Faustina died only a few years later, in 141 A.D. The Senate deified her, complete with a temple and priestesses.

Behind the temple, between the House of Vestal Virgins and the Temple of Antoninus and Faustina, lies the triangular Regia, office of the Pontifex Maximus, Rome's high priest and titular ancestor of the Pope.
The circular building behind the Temple of the Deified Julius is the Temple of Vesta, originally built by the Etruscans but rebuilt by Septimius Severus at the end of the 2nd century AD.
Designed after a Latin hut, the temple was the home of the Vestal Virgins, who tended the sacred fire of the city, keeping it continuously lit for more than 1000 years (when it went out in the 4th century, things started to go badly for the Romans).
