Temptation (New Order song) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Temptation is a single released by British group New Order on Factory Records in April 1982.
It is now one of New Order's best-known recordings, partly due to this version's appearance on the best-selling Trainspotting soundtrack; where the lyrics are sung by Diane while she's taking a bath, and is heard very faintly in the background during breakfast not much later.
A remix of "Temptation" by Secret Machines was released on the b-side of the "Waiting For The Sirens' Call" single in September 2005.

Blue Monday (New Order song) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
New Order have reciprocated by sampling the original track on their 2005 tour performances of Blue Monday.
They were label-mates of New Order on Factory Records, and both Bernard Sumner and Peter Hook of the band produced Happy Mondays tracks at different times.
It is, however, probably true that New Order saw little profit from the single's success, since their investment in the Hacienda nightclub swallowed much of the money they made from their hit.

Many songs do this for me. But the thing about Temptation is that itso encapsulated the sense of euphoria I felt at all these key events, every time I wanted a song that suited a party, or sounded like a party, I'd stick it on.
New Order were there at every significant event in my life, from when I was aged fourteen onwards, and Temptation became a centre of high gravity that attracted all the best memories of growing up.
New Order were more than just the soundtrack to my youth, they encapsulated what it was to be young.

New Order's debut single "Ceremony" was actually one of the last songs Joy Division ever wrote, and it hints at a possible lightening up that the band may have been undergoing at the time of Ian's death.
Both of these songs have New Order still channeling the spirit of Joy Division (especially in Bernard's vocals), but this is understandable with the songs coming from a time when the impact of Ian's suicide was still being felt.
New Order managed to turn out quite a body of work in the first 6 or 7 years of their career, and SUBSTANCE features the best of it in a way that is unique if nothing else.

New Order Joy Division by worldinmotion.net
NEW ORDER STORY is the definitive documentary on New Order and traces the history of the band all the way back to its origin with Joy Division.
New Order's revolutionary melding of dance rhythms with punk attitude saw them produce some of the most popular 'independent' hits of the eighties, including 'True Faith', 'Perfect Kiss', 'Bizarre Love Triangle' and the biggest-selling 12-inch single of all time in the UK, the legendary 'Blue Monday'.
Live appearancesremain rare however, and this will be New Order's first appearance in the city since a secret gig at the Olympia in 2001, and only the second time they've visited the city in twenty years.

I too saw New Order a few times (once on a bill with Echo and the Bunnymen at a show where Ian MacCullough was so drunk he fell off the stage and hurt his leg, so he spent the remainder of the show sitting on the edge of the stage).
The one thing that stands out in my memories of New Order live is that Bernard Sumner had a tendency to step out of the spotlight when not singing, giving the eerie impression that they were awaiting the second coming of Ian Curtis...

From leftover Joy Division songs to 12-inch dance edits to World Cup anthems, they tend to be sorting it out as they go along, which turns out to be more interesting to follow than if they knew exactly what they were up to.
New Order's best dance music did exactly this: It allowed the group to work, genuinely and enthusiastically, in all sorts of cool new electronic dance tropes while still allowing Bernard and bass-playing Peter to function like everyday white-guy indie lads.
The peak of it all is 1993's "Regret", which is sort of the ultimate New Order song-- a fine-tuned pop single in that same old early-cruising mode, most everything you could love about them crammed into one joyous smash-hit victory lap.

I loved many songs, even including their much-maligned soccer stadium anthem "World in Motion" (--which I never even realized was a New Order song till I saw this concert, its sound being so different from what I think of as the N.O. sound).
New Order never went in for big stage shows, favoring simple lighting and playing and avoiding pyrotechnics and movies and other assorted gimmicks.
The simple fact is that New Order are not, and never have been, a great live band, their music relying heavily on studio production to cover their musical deficiencies.

Anyway, this being the case, I missed hearing the song that's playing on Anthony Facello's myspace home page until a reader pointed it out to me. It's "Man of Sorrows," which is on BFA's latest project (and is pretty easily the finest song on the album), but this isn't BFA singing for sure.
There's the song itself, which melds lyrics about the contemplation of unmerited grace to a melody that shades in and out of minor and major chords - a melodic shading that beautifully captures the precarious mix of guilt and rapture that in many ways defines the evangelical religious experience.
During the song's climactic midsong rap, the guy on the right stares the camera down while his partner tosses in delicate vocal fills and gazes offscreen at (judging from his expression) an injured puppy limping off to die in front of a sunset.
