Pearl Jam - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pearl Jam's popularity began to decline over the next few years, partially because of their decision not to produce music videos and partially because an (ultimately unsuccessful) anti-trust lawsuit against Ticketmaster hindered live tours.
Pearl Jam was initially blamed for the accident, but the band was later cleared of responsibility when officials found that the safety measures employed by the festival organizers were inadequate.
Pearl Jam is due to release a new studio album in May 2006, Pearl Jam, on the J Records label which is part of the BMG music conglomerate, which is 50% owned by Sony and includes Epic Records.

Ten (Pearl Jam album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ten is Pearl Jam's first album, released on August 27, 1991 through Epic Records.
In 2003, the album was ranked number 207 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
Pearl Jam's original name was supposed to be Mookie Blaylock (after the professional basketball player, of whom Pearl Jam were fans), but was changed after the band signed on Epic Records, as record executives were concerned about the band being named after a professional basketball player who was still playing at the time.

Pearl Jam's career has followed a definite progression, and in retrospect Vs. is a clear stepping stone between the polished and beautiful Ten and the manic depressive Vitalogy.
I think after three albums and a near nervous break down as a band, Pearl Jam finally realized that the only way they were going to keep it together was to take their sound wherever they wanted it to go and let the fans follow rather than just keep cranking out angst ridden rock tunes.
Pearl Jam’s little song tags are really cool to listen to in concert, and it’s nice that people who may not have seen them in concert aren’t totally missing out.

With grunge having long lost its commercial clout, in 1999 Pearl Jam had their biggest hit in years with "Last Kiss," their surprisingly light cover of a golden oldie that was initially released as a fanclub only single.
Pearl Jam are still a really good band, a point that is immediately apparent on "Can't Keep," a groovy rocker with a big beat and exotic Middle Eastern overtones.
However, Pearl Jam does what they do very well, and even the obligatory filler-ish songs, of which there are several on the album's second half, are generally interesting.

Pearl Jam met fame headlong, celebrating and revelling in it, whilst at the same time seemingly responding to some critics that found 'Ten' a little too smooth.
Pearl Jam sound looser, less out to impress people by showing what great musicians they are, Eddie sinks into the overall sound yet still impresses, and Pearl Jam impress.
As Pearl Jam have always been a band with a social conscience they should appreciate that we are not paying out good money so as to have our time so utterly wasted by the appalling trite that has found its way (God knows how) onto previous releases.

 Ten by Pearl Jam CD
TEN, Pearl Jam's debut album, was released less than a month before Nirvana's NEVERMIND, and although it took longer to climb the pop charts it also hung around longer, eventually outselling its Seattle rival.
The drawn-out, bluesy guitar riffing and anthemic choruses that dominated TEN instantly gave away roots in the same popular hard rock and heavy metal that Nirvana was intent on crushing.
The meek and the misunderstood, Pearl Jam seemed to be saying, would rise and inherit the world, even if it was only a world of their own invention.

Pearl Jam keeps fresh sound more than decade after 'Ten'
After Pearl Jam's first few albums, when grunge had declined, the band still refused to change its sound to conform to current trends.
No single Pearl Jam album is a product of its time as much as it is a great rock record, and the band's newest release, Riot Act, is no exception.
With Riot Act, Pearl Jam sends a defiant message to the huddled alt-rock masses that it's pointless and stupid to try to copy a band that is this far ahead of all of its competition.

(Album packaging, however, is something else entirely.) A few new musical ideas crop up — acoustic guitar in "Daughter," chukkachukka wah-wah in "Blood," hand drums in "W.M.A.," a different sort of hook in "Glorified G," a moody minor-key progression in "Rearviewmirror," organ on "Indifference" — but the band's central equation already seems set in stone.
By resisting its instinctive bump and grind, Pearl Jam is revealed to be far more profound in the impact of a whisper than a scream.
After successfully flouting, then embracing, career- rocker nichedom, Pearl Jam boiled down their heroic hard rock into a thick slash ‘n’ hum that could appeal to no one but the already-converted.
