Our origin: human ancestors of homo sapiens are thousands of generations of mothers   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
People that lived ten thousand years ago certainly would be dazzled if they could take a look at all the new discoveries that have made our lives so much easier than theirs, but in every other way they were much the same as we are.
Although humans of ten thousand years ago lived more primitively than we do, they were just like us in their basic make-up, mentally, socially, emotionally.
Going back ten thousand generations of mothers, or two hundred thousand years, we meet humans that are sufficiently different from Homo Sapiens to give them a separate name.

Here, in one army, was a rich tapestry of archers representing a large part of the known world of 500 B. A thousand years later, Attila and his Huns became the first of a succession of horse archers to emerge from central Asia and conquer vast empires.
Because the steppes of central Asia offered the expansive, treeless plains in which the bow and arrow were most successfully employed, it was here that the weapon reached its widest use and took on a different shape.
With 10,000 years or more of use behind it, the bow and arrow is definitely not destined to be one of them.

Starting about two thousand years ago, the local peoples' flat stone matates and manos were gradually and nearly entirely replaced by the round, stubby pestle and bedrock mortar, indicating both an increasing permanence of settlement and a growing dependence upon the acorn, an oilier crop than grass which demanded a different grinding mechanism.
This "late horizon" or "emergent" period was one of rootedness, wherein the Kuksu cult of spirit impersonation emerged, the language dialects presumably differentiated, and the flowering of the local culture occurred.

Ten thousand years ago, your life was your own (or at least, it only belonged to the small collection of people around you).
And so it still is. The only difference is that we in the present have a better understanding of our place in the cosmos than those who lived ten thousand years ago.
If one believes that the earth is a sphere (something that educated people have known for thousands of years) then the sky is an even bigger sphere, colored fl as night, and studded with glistening bright points of light.

J.V. Wright's Ontario Prehistory: An Eleven Thousand Year Outline (Wright 1972) is written for the lay reader, while The Archaeology of Southern Ontario to AD 1650 (Ellis and Ferris 1990) is intended for more serious students.
Spanning 7,000 years, the Archaic in southern Ontario is the longest and, in many ways, the most stable of the prehistoric periods.
Considering that the Archaic Period as a whole extends over seven thousand years and each of the subperiods some thousands, the material culture of these food foragers was remarkably conservative.

Anyway it is the Vedic standard to consider the month (and the year) to begin on a sukla pratipat, first tithi after the new moon.
That is because the deciding factor that determines whether or not a year will have a leap month is based on the new moon months of the Vedic calendar.
Even rarer (in a weird cycle of 151 years, then 19, then back to 151 years [I think it is 151, it is in that area]) when you have one solar month with no new moon and two solar months with two new moons.

Bells have traditionally been made of a very particular combination of tin and copper, but I thought well in ten thousand years there might be completely new materials, there might be absolutely new alloys, new mixtures of materials that would make new kinds of bells, so I started to experiment with physics basically.
I also noticed when I was working on this that the number of days in ten thousand years is almost exactly equal to the number of permutations of ten bells.
So it occurred to me that every day for the next ten thousand years we could have one of these unique orders, so the bells in a way would also be a calendar.
