Barbara Roche MP was angry over comments made by Pierre Oxley which criticised the Government for leaving Tendring Council to pick up a bill of up to £120,000 over the next year for bed and breakfast for asylum seekers.
She said Tendring residents may be interested to know that the Tories voted against Labour plans to phase out cash benefits for asylum seekers, which would cost £500 million, and also voted against plans to penalise lorry drivers £2,000 for each illegal entrant they bring in to Britain.
Mr Oxley said he stood by his comments that the people of Tendring should not have to sacrifice projects in the district to pay the bill for the asylum seekers and that it should be met wholly by central Government.

 TENDRING TWINNING ASSOCIATION
The links locally for Town twinning are through the Tendring Twinning Association, a voluntary, non-political organisation which arranges cultural exchanges to the twin towns, and hosts return visits, to the Tendring area.
Its aim is to enable the people of the Tendring District to link up with people of the towns of Biberach in Germany, Valence in France and Świdnica in Poland.
Over the years, through various twinning exchanges, representatives from the Tendring District made links with one of Biberach's other twin towns - Swidnica in Poland in 1999; a twinning charter with the town of Swidnica was also signed.
