Teng Haibin ends his black week with gold - Newsgd
Teng's gold was so heavy as he had to beat not only the world-recognized pommel king, Marian Urzica from Romania, but also the great pressure exerted on him in the past week in Athens.
Teng, 19, the rising star in recent years who was expected to be the successor of the popular star Li Xiaopeng, suffered a string of heavy blows since the beginning of the Athens Olympic Games.
On August 16 in the team final, Teng sank into Waterloo as he tumbled on the floor, fell from the parallel bars and the high bar, scoring 8.662, 8.737 and 9.125 points respectively, which, to someextent, directly sent the Chinese team to the fifth place, the worst mark of the team in Olympics since 1984.

Teng goes from hitting rock bottom to soaring high
Teng's was the worst among them - he slipped down from the pommel horse, failed the parallel bars routine and dropped from the horizontal bar.
All of his teammates came to hug Teng, however, but that was not enough to comfort him.
Teng had to compete in such an atmosphere - and what made things worse is that another Chinese gymnast Wang Tiantian ranked only second to last on women's vault final right before his competition.

 Starnge indeed
However, what really upset the crowd and the gymnasts in equal measure was the outcome which came from the horizontal bars, the event producing as many as three gold-medallists in Teng Haibin, Hiroyuki Tomita and South Korean Yang Tae-Seok, each with a score of 9.800.
Huang, like Teng, won a second individual gold as he shared the parallel bars title with Sydney 2000 hero Li Xiaopeng, while Li won another gold by topping the field in the vault final, the only event, other than the floor, which saw a lone winner.
With Huang, Teng and Li having figured prominently in China's successful campaign in the team event earlier, the double in the individual events enabled all the three, eventually, to finish with a haul of three golds.
