  Tennantite and Pyrite
Tennantite, (Cu,Fe)12AS4S13, (Copper Iron Arsenic Sulfide), is a relatively uncommon sulfosalt.
In this form it is known as Tetrahedrite.

TENNANTITE Chapter 21. Sulfides, arsenides, antimonides, and sulfosalts
Tennantite was first found at Sterling Hill by Lawson Bauer and confirmed by Palache (1928a, 1935).
Tennantite is a copper iron arsenic sulfide mineral.
Tennantite also was found intimately associated with bornite and loellingite on the 1300 level and with bornite, chalcopyrite, galena, and sphalerite on the 800 level.

Tennantite from the USZ varies systematically in chemical composition with stratigraphic elevation.
Vertical chemical zoning, reflected in the substitution of copper and zinc for iron, and antimony and bismuth for arsenic, occurs in all mineralized intervals.
Observations that proximal tennantite is relatively Sb-, and (Zn+Fe)-rich, whereas distal tennantite is enriched in As and Cu, support this model.

Tennantite is generally darker, has a redder streak and a translucent red color that can be seen in thin splinters when they are held up to a strong light.
Tennantite is in an informal group of minerals called the "fahlerz" or "fahlores" group.
Often tennantite will contain a certain percentage of silver and be used as a minor ore. Collectors usually crave nice specimens of verified tennantite.

THE SELECTIVE EXTRACTION OF AS IN SELECTED MINERAL AND SOIL SAMPLES
The four minerals (arsenopyrite, scorodite, tennantite and conichalcite) used for the kinetic study were crushed and sieved through a minus 80-mesh sieve.
The weight of minerals (arsenopyrite, scorodite, tennantite and conichalcite) added to 100g of matrix used to prepare mineralised samples (doped samples), is calculated in such a way that there are about 500 ppm As in scorodite and arsenopyrite and 300 ppm As in conichalcite and tennantite.
A kinetic study of the selectivity of partial chemical extractions applied to minerals of arsenic was undertaken in order to establish a procedure (reagents, time of extraction, etc), which could be recommended for soils and tailings of the Talhadas and Preguiça old mines.

Preliminary evidence from the ongoing archaeological excavations at Ross Island indicates that both tennantite- and arsenopyrite-bearing ores from Western Mine and perhaps some fine-grained, banded, chalcopyrite-pyrite ± sphalerite ± galena ores from Blue Hole were exploited in the Early Bronze Age as copper ores.
Tennantite and trace amounts of enargite-bearing copper ores at the Ross Island site are part of a discontinuous zone of mineralisation stretching south-eastwards from Ross Island (Western Mine and Blue Hole) to Crow Island to Muckross Mine and beyond.
The sulphides vary from yellow-coloured chalcopyrite-pyrite with minor galena and sphalerite and trace amounts of arsenopyrite (FeAsS) and tennantite to finely banded, dark grey-fl- coloured ores comprising sphalerite (ZnS) and galena (PbS) with lesser amounts of pyrite, chalcopyrite and trace amounts of arsenopyrite and tennantite.

Tetrahedrite shows the fastest kinetics of xanthate adsorption with the formation of multilayer coverage of surface cuprous xanthate.
On chalcopyrite and tennantite the adsorbed amount of xanthate is much lower, close to a monolayer coverage.
The differences in the surface composition of these three minerals are governed mainly by a different mobility of copper atoms in their crystalline structures in the presence of xanthate in solution.
