The Tennessee Senate is the upper house of the Tennessee General Assembly, the formal name of the Tennessee state legislature.
The Tennessee Senate, according to the state constitution of 1870, is composed of 33 members.
Wilder has traditionally depended on the support of both Republicans and Democrats for his support; therefore the Tennessee Senate is currently organized on a rather bi-partisan basis with members of both parties serving as committee chairs, an unusual situation in a body elected on a partisan basis.

SB 2080 passed unanimously through the Senate Wednesday to require that an attorney who is performing the duties of a private investigator must be licensed as an attorney in Tennessee and be in good standing as an attorney in order to qualify for the statutory exemption from licensing as a private investigator.
SB 2603 passed through unanimous consent of the Senate Thursday to redefine "average monthly balance" for purposes of the collateral pool for public deposits and to specify that the balance must not exceed 110 percent of the average daily balance in the collateral pool for public deposits.
Senate Education Committee: SB 3305 passed the Senate Education Committee to have the State Board study policy for handling attendance and transfer of a student whose custodial parents reside in two local education agencies.

The Senate, in its wisdom may vote to void an election, but only after it has developed and applied statewide uniform standards that govern which votes will be counted, practicable procedures to implement them, with an orderly mechanism for judicial review of disputed matters that may arise.
Even if the Senate were to act quickly in establishing rules governing the procedure for throwing out votes, it remains unclear of whether then they can even act according to those standards, since they would NOT have been in effect prior to the election.

Nashville, TN (LifeNews.com) -- The Tennessee state Senate is preparing to debate a pro-life constitutional amendment that would neutralize a provision in the state constitution that the Tennessee Supreme Court misused to declare an unlimited right to abortion and overturn pro-life laws that limit abortions in the state.
Earlier, the proposal received approval from a Senate committee, but only after an amendment was added declaring that a right to abortion exists in cases of rape and incest.
The full Senate was expected to vote a second time this week on the proposal, but a vote won't likely occur until sometime next week.
