The TENRYU departs Shortland for Guadalcanal in Rear Admiral (later Vice Admiral) Nishimura Shoji's (former CO of HARUNA) Bombardment Unit: CruDiv 7's MAYA and the SUZUYA and the destroyers KAZAKUMO, MAKIGUMO, MICHISHIO and the YUGUMO.
At 2100, the TENRYU is departing Madang Roads with the ARASHIO, SUZUKAZE, ISONAMI and the INAZUMA.

Tenryu is teaming with his protege Nobutaka Araya instead, a much better team from a wrestling perspective even though Araya is nothing special but this tournament really lacks name value now and isn't likely to draw well again.
Tenryu doesn't want to be in the IWGP title tournament on 1/4, but would like to challenge the next king to a unification match.
Tenryu vs. Hansen is pretty much a situation where if you want to hold off the Kawada vs. Tenryu match for a Tokyo Dome or even simply build a Budokan show around their first real singles match then Hansen could win without hurting Tenryu.

Gen'ichiro Tenryu (2nd participation): Tenryu is one of the great anomalies in NJPW history...if someone had asked me how many G-1s Tenryu had been in before this one, I would have said at least five or six.
But, outside this year, his only participation was in 1998, where it was a straight elimination tournament (for the record, he beat Mutoh in the first round, and lost to eventual winner Hashimoto in the semifinals).
Tenryu won't win the thing, but I think he's going to be kept strong along the way, and has a great shot at finishing in the top three.

Tenryu defeated Kawada with his signature Northern Lights Bomb move in 26:28 before 16,300 fans at Tokyo's Nippon Budokan Hall.

Tenryu kicks Onita in the head while the crowd chants “OH-NY-TAH!” Onita has an ugly series of vertical gashes in his upper arm like a prisoner’s calender.
Tenryu slaps on what I think was supposed to be a Figure 4 but gets kind of messed up.

 Japanese Navy Ships--Tenryu (Light Cruiser, 1919)
Tenryu, a 3230-ton light cruiser built at Yokosuka, Japan, was commissioned in November 1919.
Plans to convert her to an anti-aircraft ship were cancelled in 1939, and she spent the next two years as a training ship at Maizuru Naval Station and on a cruise through the central Pacific in mid-1941.
She was damaged by a bomb on 2 October, made two transport runs to Guadalcanal in early November and covered the 14 November bombardment of Henderson Field.

A friend was moving our car from Kakegawa to Tenryu so we would not have to bike that extra 35 kilometers through our local area.

Jumbo and Tenryu may take a number of hard shots from Kawada and Misawa, but neither of the #1's does a thing to make you feel like that'll go somewhere for the younger guys.

The 9/2 Budokan show has yet to be booked, however; we do know that Genichiro Tenryu, who is working the whole of this tour, is pushing to have assistant NJPW booker Shiro Koshinaka come over for that show.
Koshinaka and Tenryu were former IWGP Tag Team champions in New Japan during Tenryu's time in that promotion.
Tenryu, Nobutaka Araya, and other native workers had a workout session at AJPW's gym in Yokohama yesterday, however it quickly turned into a media photo-op.
