The networks of track and path created by the foresters to allow the movement of wood are a God-send for walkers, mountain-bikers and pony trekking enthusiasts.
This was used to store salmon netted in the sea and on the opposite side of the forest road, almost obscured by trees and shrubbery, there's a small pond which provided the ice.
The track curves right to reach the junction at the edge of the forest where we were earlier in the day.

The final distances were based on SoL3 times for the forest, a judgement of who might turn up and a little bit of perception of competitor view that some distances are too long regardless of the ground speed that might be realised.

 Fife Coastal Path - St Andrews to Newport-on-Tay
At the car park close to the sand dunes the path turn north along the edge of the forest and for the next 3 miles runs almost due north over a variety of path surfaces until reaching the south eastern edge of the Firth of Tay.
On reaching Tentsmuir Point the forest path heads in a westerly direction, but again at this point we recommend a very short detour off the track to get your first view up the Tay towards Broughty Ferry and Dundee.
The walk remains on the forest track till a point close to Tayport where the way heads to the right and onto a path by the side of the tidal beach.

Possible evidence of erosion on the seaward side of Lucky Scalp is shown by the proximity of the destroyed navigation beacon to the beach which would presumably have been built somewhat landwards on the former beach position.
From a vantage point on the high dunes it can be seen that several hundreds of metres of accumulation has taken place at this area since the concrete blocks were emplaced.
The growth of this part of Tentsmuir can be determined from Ordnance Surveys of the area and since about 1940 by aerial photography.

A new automatic barrier for entry to the Kinshaldy car park in Tentsmuir Forest will come into operation on or around September 25, as part of a Forestry Commission Scotland plan to make better use of manpower at the site.
Season tickets are available by applying to Tay Forest District, Inverpark, Dunkeld, Perthshire PH8 0JR, enclosing a cheque for £30 and details of name, address, email and telephone number.
It manages 668,000 hectares of national forest land for multiple benefits, including nature conservation, public recreation, timber production, and rural and community development; supports other woodland owners with grants, felling licences, advice and regulation; promotes the benefits of forests and forestry; and advises Ministers on forestry policy.
