From the instant he first appeared on the Indy Car scene in 1983, Teo Fabi earned a reputation of being quiet, confident and very competitive.
As many long time followers of Indy Car recall, it was the Team Forsythe/Fabi duo that arrived for the 1983 Indianapolis 500, then shocked fans and fellow competitors alike by earning that years pole position.
And the potential that was to be for Fabi`s 1988 return to Indy Cars with the highly touted Porsche factory team would succumb to the forces of behind the scenes politics much of this was due to Roger Penske and economic woes, scoring three poles and one win over three seasons.

He started car racing when he was 21 thanks to his younger brother Corrado and Teo rose rapidly through Formula Ford 1600, winning the 1977 Italian Championship, to race a private March in the European Formula 3 series in 1978.
Teo finished third at Detroit in his Brabham.
Fabi stayed with Porsche in 1990 until the company stopped its CART program and then he joined Tom Walkinshaw Racing's Jaguar sportscar team.

Teo and Corrado's parents had significant interests in talcum powder mining, which allowed both their sons to indulge in their sporting passions from an early age.
Teo was an excellent skier, and it was during a skiing trip in 1970 in the mountains near Milan that Corrado found a go-kart track.
But Fabi had shown that he was not particularly fond of racing in the wet, so the early laps when he would have to use slicks on a drying track would be especially crucial.

Teodorico Fabi, better known as Teo Fabi (born March 9, 1955) is an Italian former Formula One driver and car racer.
He was also runner-up in the 1983 IndyCar championship; during that year, he became the second driver to qualify for the pole position of the Indianapolis 500-Mile Race as a rookie, going on to lead the opening 23 laps before eventually retiring with a broken fuel valve O-ring on lap 44.
He is the elder brother of Corrado Fabi, also a car racing driver; Corrado shared the 1984 Brabham drive with him: since Teo was already committed to a programme in CART racing, Corrado stood in for the races which clashed with his CART commitments.

I have no idea what the red-shirted dude is about, but he and Teo have this in common: I caught them in a caricature pose, one that begs for a caption.

Teo shared the 1976 European karting championship with his brother Corrado and the late Elio de Angelis, thereby endorsing a talent which would carry him through to F1 with only fleeting success.
Disappointingly though, Fabi never achieved much in F1 despite displaying a great deal of promise.
He returned to Toleman in 1985 and stayed on after the team was acquired by Benetton, contesting a full programme of Grand Prix throughout the following two years.

SPEEDCENTER (May 10, 1996) - SpeedCenter has learned that Teo Fabi sustained two minor fractures in his right foot on Sunday as a result of a trail bike accident which occurred while Fabi was riding near his Monte Carlo residence.
Fabi will be wearing a plastic cast for the next two-three weeks.
