  Maya Creation Myths - Crystalinks
In Maya mythology, Tepeu and Gucumatz (also known as Kukulkan, and as the Aztec's Quetzalcoatl) are referred to as the Creators, the Makers, and the Forefathers.
Tepeu and Gucumatz hold a conference and decide that, in order to preserve their legacy, they must create a race of beings who can worship them.

 Conclusion
In the compactness of the Maya-Quiché myth of genesis, the world was engendered by Tepeu, the Lord, with the assistance of Gucumatz, a mythical half-celestial and half-earthly creature represented by the plumed serpent.
They met, and from their meditations, words and counsels the earth was born; from the immobility and silence of darkness, the world came into existence.
Sandino's attempt to bring the world out of darkness, and to recreate it in the light of the revelations of the new age, parallels the Maya-Quiché myth of genesis in one important way.

 CD Baby: ERNESTO DIAZ-INFANTE: Tepeu
Tepeu is a CD collection of six improvisations for solo pinao by San Francisco-based composer/improviser Ernesto Diaz-Infante.
Tepeu, recorded exactly one year following Itz'at on the fourth of July, 1998, is so named after a Mayan god who has the role of bringing order to the universe.
Tepeu from the same session has six compositions, including the lengthy title cut that depicts a Mayan god, whom Diaz-Infante states brings order out of chaos just as his creative process does.

The Symbolism of the Mayan Numbers
At early stages, the Maya perceived that the natural events recur in a cyclical manner and that are combined each other according to proportions and numerical parameters.
Tzacol means "Creator", Bitol is the "Former", Alom is the cosmic female progenitor, Cajalom is the cosmic male progenitor, Tepeu means the "Governor", and Gucumatz (Kukulcan, in maya) is the "Plumed Serpent": the Quetzalcoatl of the Toltecs and Mexicas.
It is not required a big effort to reconstruct the essential thinking of the Mayan philosophers that reunited in these six teogonic personalities the visible and comprehensible attributes of an abstract deity revealing its presence.

Here, then, is the beginning of when it was decided to make man, and when what must enter into the flesh of man was sought.
And the Forefathers, the Creators and Makers, who were called Tepeu and Gucumatz said: "The time of dawn has come, let the work be finished, and let those who are to nourish and sustain us appear, the noble sons, the civilized vassals; let man appear, humanity, on the face of the earth." Thus they spoke.
And then grinding the yellow corn and the white corn, Xmucané made nine drinks, and from this food came the strength and the flesh, and with it they created the muscles and the strength of man. This the Forefathers did, Tepeu and Gucumatz, as they were called.
