Tequila is a strong distilled alcoholic beverage made primarily in the area surrounding Tequila, a town in the western Mexican state of Jalisco, 50 km from Guadalajara.
Tequila is required to be at least 51% agave; the remainder is usually maize or sugarcane.
Tequila was first produced in the 16th century near the location of the city of Tequila which was not officially established until 1656.

Tequilera Corralejo is in the state of Guanajuato, one of the few Mexican states outside of Jalisco allowed to produce tequila.
As a result of the well documented "Agave Crisis" Corralejo is no longer producing 100% agave tequila.
However Corralejo does have a very nice new web site and they claim that their tequila is now made with 70% blue agave and 30% blue agave from outside designated growing regions.
