Wildlife Institute of India, with financial support from Save the Tiger Fund (National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, USA), undertook a project (July 2002 – March 2004) in the Indian part of Terai Arc Landscape (TAL), covering vast area between Simbalbara WLS (Himachal Pradesh) in the west and Valmiki Tiger Reserve (Bihar) in the east.
The objectives were to evaluate the status of tiger and associated prey species, and to create a spatial database on the landscape characteristics, including demography and socio-economic conditions of people for the entire TAL region.
