Terawatt-hour - Open Encyclopedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
The terawatt hour (TW·h) is a unit for measuring energy.
It is the amount of energy that would be produced by a 1,000,000 MW generator over a period of one hour, or a 114 MW generator over a period of approximately one year.
The terawatt hour is commonly used for large amounts of electrical energy, since it may be easier to understand in a practical context than the proper SI unit for energy, the joule, which is a watt second (W·s).

 hour
In modern usage, an hour is defined as a unit of time 60 minutes, or 3600 seconds in length.
When a clock showed these hours, its speed had to be changed every morning and evening, for example by changing the length of its pendulum.
So, sunrise is always exactly at the beginning of the 1st hour, noon at the end of the 6th hour, and sunset exactly at the end of the 12th hour.

August 17.--Our course this day led us over a barren, rocky country, usually wet and marshy: latterly we appear to be descending from a a mere scrub covered with dwarf iron barks, apple trees, and small gums; detached roots.
The horses fell repeatedly in the course of the day, four and five o'clock, after travelling about ten hours, we stopped at a miles.
In our track we saw no signs of natives, and the country seemed different trying obstructions we encountered during this day's journey: quicksand, we had accomplished nearly eleven miles, and were looking out barks which had been lately burnt; and their fl stems and branches, singularly dismal and gloomy appearance.
