The first "Terminator" film was relatively low-budget, but "Terminator 2" was the most expensive film ever made at the time.
"Terminator 2" is a great thriller because the villain is apparently indescructible and totally unrelenting, the ultimate nightmare and while other thrillers leave a lot to the imagination, this one does not.
In 2003, a sequel to "Terminator 2" came out: "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines." The new film was directed not by Cameron, but Jonathan Mostow and now the villain is a female terminator, called "T-X" or Terminatrix, who is played by Kristanna Loken.

The Terminators sent back by the original SkyNet may have been created by someone else, but as Cyberdyne takes over that technology those in the next timeline are built by them and sent back at the same point in time to do the same tasks, but with a different memory of their constructions.
So he sends the original model Terminator back to protect himself, knowing that as a boy he would have saved her if he could have, and knowing that if he succeeded he would know that he saved his mother because he sent the Terminator back, and so would do so at the right time.
If she destroys the other company, the original terminator cannot come back, therefore Cyberdyne cannot have the pieces of the technology from the future, therefore neither company can create Skynet, war is averted, and time is restored to the original segment in which war is inevitable: the loop occurs.

Revealing: When the Terminator is in the elevator and the T-1000 opens the elevator door with the funny hand things, the Terminator shoots the T-1000 in the head - if you put it in slow motion you can clearly see that the T-1000's head is already split down the middle.
In one scene the truck hits 2 cars which, if paused, shows that those cars were both parked across the main road front bumper to front bumper blocking the main road in the process, making it impossible for the truck to miss them.
Continuity: In the scene where the Terminator and John are at the pay phone John picks the gun off the floor, it's cocked when it's in his hand, but as soon as he passes it to the Terminator, it's not cocked any more.

For the two or three people that never caught it, “Terminator 2 : Judgement Day” is the sequel to a little film that could called “The Terminator”, which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as a bone-crunching cyborg sent back through time to eliminate a future warrior named John Connor.
“Terminator 2” is not just sought-after because you know it’ll be packed with extras features, but because it’s just such a darn good movie, you know your speakers and widescreen television are going to joyously say thankyou later.

He introduces a liquid metal Terminator that he wanted to use in the first film, but graphic processors and CGI were not advanced enough in 1984, at least not advanced enough to work on the low means he had to film the original.
Of course, this Terminator has no memory of the first film, since he wasn't in it--SkyNet creates hordes of the same version machines on a large conveyor belt and ships them off to fight in the war.

Terminator 2 THE ULTIMATE EDITION DVD actually has 3 different versions of the movie; the original theatrical release lasting 136 minutes, the special edition version lasting 153 minutes and an extended special edition clocking in at 155 minutes and 43 seconds which is accessed by an "Easter Egg" discussed below.
Anyway, "Terminator 2," while not Cameron's best film, has the best action sequences of any film he produced (although "Aliens" is pretty close).

After the moderate success of The Terminator, James Cameron decided to outdo himself with the old "bigger is better" modus operandi, and together with the greatest special effects maestros in Hollywood, created one of the most amazing sci fi action thrillers ever!
Wether this of the seminal original is the best is debatable, but what is for sure is that it is truly one awesome thrill ride packed with out-of-this world effects that still amaze 11 years later.
