  The Terrahawks: The Complete Series
With 'Terrahawks', we had puppets without strings and as the supplementary material describes, the operators had their hands up the puppet's nether regions and rods to move their arms.
OK, for those not in the know, 'Terrahawks' is a secret organisation designed to thwart the plans of the alien android cackling 'Zelda' and her accomplices based on Mars from doing the nasty to the Earth.
The Terrahawks are bossed around by one of nine clones called 'Tiger' Ninestein who can have another body replacing him and uploaded with a similar personality within a day of arrival.

DVD Verdict Review - Terrahawks: The Complete Series
Cutting the "Supermarionation" strings for a hand-puppet technique awkwardly dubbed "Supermacronation," Terrahawks wants to be a throwback to those thrilling days of yesteryear, when men were men and ugly aliens always had a trick up their sleeves.
And while the rolling robot spheres (the "zeroids" that form the bulk of the Terrahawks' security force) are momentarily interesting, the writers insist on milking them for humor by giving them funny accents (or, in the case of one recurring zeroid, a conspicuously gay persona).
Terrahawks, however, has all the staying power of an old Colecovision you find at the flea market.

"Terrahawks" (1983) - IMDb user comments   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Terrahawks has a little more depth to the characters, and some splendidly horrible running jokes (Tiger's consistent failure to beat the high-score on his game, the horrific mocking of Hiro's 'accent' ("Exactry!"), and the rivalry between the football Sgt. Zero and the speciesist Tiger).
Terrahawks featured a military unit called Terrahawks (led by Dr. Tiger Ninestein) against an evil alien called Zelda (easily the ugliest character in any TV show) and her even uglier son Yung-Star.
TERRAHAWKS also has some unintentional laughs in the guise of the preposterous sounding writer's pseudonyms used by Tony Barwick to disguise the fact that he wrote 98% of the episodes (examples include T.I. Gerstein, Koo Garstein, Leo Pardstein and P.U. Mastein, geddit?).

Terrahawks was the second and final Gerry Anderson series to feature in Look-In.
Terrahawks was not as popular with older fans brought up on the all-action adventures of Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, UFO and Space:1999, but it developed a following among younger viewers, and the Zeroid robots certainly caught their imagination.
While editor Colin Shelbourn does not recollect the disagreement, as it was possibly handled by the art editor at the time, Terrahawks did not return to Look-In to represent further screenings later in 1984 and early 1986.

Review - DVD: Terrahawks - The Complete Series
Terrahawks, which ran on British television in 1983, had several entertaining elements, but watching it now on this 5-DVD set, some adults are apt to have a difficult time staying tuned.
The Terrahawks' mission, as far as I could tell, was to protect the Earth from alien attack.
(I wonder if that's what happened to Marilyn Manson.) She sends a different "monster" to try to destroy the Terrahawks every episode, but we always see her, too, and she has the world's most cliche and obnoxious "witch laugh," which makes it close to unwatchable for adults and too frightening for children.

Terrahawks (series)   (Site not responding. Last check: )
The Terrahawks have the usual Anderson cadre of futuristic machines and aircraft that are able to fly both in the earth's atmosphere and in outer space as well: something that is very necessary since the earth is under more-or-less constant attack from none other than Mars.
Series highlights include the super-serious two part debut, in which Zelda takes over Mars and mounts her first attack on the earth, and the series finale in which the Terrahawks appear to be taken over by their martian enemies, forcing the Zeroids to come to the rescue.
Terrahawks is a lot of fun, though it doesn't achieve the dizzying goofiness of some of Anderson's other efforts, particularly Thunderbirds and Joe 90.

Also on the Terrahawks team: avionics expert Capt. Mary Falconer; computer and engineering prodigy Lt. Hiro; fighter pilots Lt. Hawkeye and Capt. Kate Kestrel (who happens to be an international singing sensation on the side).

Terrahawks was created by Gerry Anderson and Christopher Burr in the early eighties and was filmed using Supermacromation and Hudsoncolor.
Supermacromation was the technique used to control the characters from bellow to remove the possibility of any stings being visiable, this also enabled to character's faces to look more human than previous series produced by Anderson.
The vehicles used by the Terrahawks were designed to be hidden from the view of the public with one hidden below the base building, which folded down out of the way at launch and landing.
