  Terrell County, Texas History
Terrell County is in the Big Bend area of southwestern Texas, bordered on the south by Mexico, on the east by Val Verde and Crockett counties, on the north by Pecos County, and on the west by both Pecos and Brewster counties.
Terrell County was formed by an act of the Texas legislature on April 8, 1905, and organized on July 27 of that year.
Terrell County's population rose gradually from 1,430 in 1910 to 2,680 by 1920 and to 2,952 by 1930.

 George Whitfield Terrell
Terrell petitioned Austin Lodge No. 12 in 1841, and between 11 November 1841 and 27 December 1842 he was initiated, passed, and raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason.
Terrell also joined the Grand Chapter of the Royal Arch and was counted present at their annual communication on 15 January 1844 at Washington-on-the-Brazos as Grand King, one of three principal officers of the Grand Chapter.
Terrell feared that continued talks of annexation would fail, and that Texas “would plunge into the bogs and marshes of confusion and chaos,” leaving Texas to work her way out, abandoned by all her friends and left to ruin.

Terrell Hills is a suburban community off the old Austin Highway five miles northeast of downtown San Antonio in central Bexar County.
Terrell agreed to lay water main and gas lines from N. New Braunfels Avenue to the area and a 50 foot gravel road was arranged.
Terrell Hills was incorporated on March 31, 1939 and received the charter as "Town of Terrell Hills".

Located in the Official Texas Historical Carnegie Library Building at 207 N. Frances Street, the museum was founded by and is a major project of the Terrell Heritage Society.
The Carnegie building is itself a significant part of Terrell's heritage having served as the public library for approximately 80 years from it's construction in 1904.
Terrell's railroading past is reflected in the private railroad car in Lion's Club Park which was part of the rolling stock of the Texas Midland Railroad., once headquartered in Terrell.

With an area of over 2,000 square miles and a population of just over 1,000, Terrell is both the largest and least populated county to have adopted a flag.
The canton bears a gold outline map of the county; the white stipe is inscribed "Terrell County" in red on two lines.
The flag was designed by Tanner Helmers as an entry in a contest open to the county's high school students at the time of the Texas Sesquicentennial.

 Brigadier General Terrell
Alexander Watkins Terrell, Quaker, jurist, Civil War officer, and statesman, the son of Christopher Joseph and Susan (Kennerly) Terrell, was born in Patrick County, Virginia, on November 3, 1827.
Terrell was elected judge of the state's Second District in 1857.
As commander of what came to be called "Terrell's Texas Cavalry" (noted variously as the 37th and 34th Regiments) he participated with distinction in the battles of Mansfield and Pleasant Hill (where he was wounded) during the campaign in northern Louisiana against Gen. Nathaniel P. Banks (the Red River Campaign).
