  Terrell County History
Terrell County became one of the biggest sheep and wool producers in the U.S. In 1926, eleven thousand lambs averaging $6 per head were sold in one of the largest lamb sales in history.
As the century of railroading and ranching closed, Terrell County took stock of its assets: its frontier heritage, historic structures, great weather, good water, oil and gas reserves, and natural and people resources.
The County initiated an Economic Development Program and in 1999, the State Senate declared Sanderson and Terrell County the "Cactus Capital of Texas." The Sanderson Community Development Association was formed to translate goals into realities.

Terrell County (K-9) is in the Big Bend area of southwestern Texas, bordered on the south by Mexico, on the east by Val Verde and Crockett counties, on the north by Pecos County, and on the west by both Pecos and Brewster counties.
Terrell County was formed by an act of the Texas legislature on April 8, 1905, and organized on July 27 of that year.
Terrell County's population rose gradually from 1,430 in 1910 to 2,680 by 1920 and to 2,952 by 1930.

 General Alexander W. Terrell
Alexander Watkins Terrell, jurist, Civil War officer, and statesman, the son of Christopher Joseph and Susan (Kennerly) Terrell, was born in Patrick County, Virginia, probably on November 3, 1827.
Terrell was elected judge of the state's Second District in 1857.
Terrell returned to Texas in 1866 and resumed the practice of law in Houston, but the following year, disgusted with the turmoil of Reconstruction politics, he temporarily retreated to his plantation in Robertson County.

The terms of the election pursuant to which the Terrell County voters approved the venue-project tax for park improvements constitute a contract with the voters, and Terrell County is authorized to use venue-project funds for improvements outlined in the current Expenditure Plan only if the improvements are consistent with the election orders.

Knowing from previous reports and the maps that this highpoint was located way off any main roads, I figured I'd give the legal route a shot and try to track down the landowner for permission.
I guess this isn't too much a surprise as there are only about a thousand people in Terrell County.
Very early the next morning (today) I drove the 70 miles to Sanderson, the Terrell County Seat, then another 9 miles west along US-90 to the Ninemile Ranch gates where I was told Jody would meet us.
