Aquatic animal - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Animal environments are classified as either aquatic (water), terrestrial (land), or amphibious (water and land).
Aquatic animals are often of special concern to conservationists because of the delicacy of their environments.
The majority of amphibians (class Amphibia) have an aquatic larval stage, like a tadpole, but then live as terrestrial adults, and may return to the water to mate.

Terrestrial ecoregion - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The eight terrestrial ecozones follow the major floral and faunal boundaries, identified by botanists and zoologists, that separate the world's major plant and animal communities.
Terrestrial as used here differs slightly with use of terrestrial as a synonym for "terran" ("of Earth" in general, whether land or oceans).
Terrestrial planets, for example, include not only the earth, but all planets which have surfaces composed mostly of rock, as distinct from planets without a solid surface.

 The Inhabited Worlds - TruthBook
While the older worlds of mortal existence harbor those highly developed and exquisitely spiritual types of human beings who are virtually exempt from the morontia life, the earlier ages of the animal-origin races are characterized by primitive mortals who are so immature that fusion with their Adjusters is impossible.
There is fundamentally only one way in which individual human life can be initiated on the inhabited worlds, and that is through creature procreation and natural birth; but there are numerous techniques whereby man escapes his terrestrial status and gains access to the inward moving stream of Paradise ascenders.
Throughout the earlier ages of an inhabited world, many are called to the mansion spheres at the special and the millennial resurrections, but most survivors are repersonalized at the inauguration of a new dispensation associated with the advent of a divine Son of planetary service.

Apes - Distribution in Time, Geographical Distribution, Zoological Position and Affinities
We ought not to expect this, because the agility and arboreal life of these animals enable them to escape local inundations, and other causes of destruction and speedy burial, to which more sluggish and terrestrial animals are exposed.
When they fall dead they are almost immediately devoured by carnivorous animals and feeders on carrion, and it is owing to this that their remains are so rarely found in India, on which account the Hindoos believe that they bury their dead.
The question as to which animals are most nearly allied to apes is one by no means easy to answer.

Large terrestrial animals push against the solid ground, creating reaction forces in the opposite direction.
Whereas the total upward force is proportional to the perimeter of contact, which increases linearly with body size, the mass of the animal that must be supported by the tension forces increases proportionally to the cube of its body length.
The situation is a bit more complicated for swimming and flying animals, which must push against a fluid (from a physical standpoint, both air and water are fluids).

Legged animals typically employ multiple gaits, i.e., phase-locked patterns of limb movements, for terrestrial locomotion.
The control of animal locomotion involves a central pattern generator (CPG), which is an intraspinal network of neurons capable of producing rhythmic output.
Machines capable of legged locomotion are an attractive option, because they can be used to explore rough and uneven terrain, which is often inaccessible to wheeled vehicles.

There is evidence that humans mate for genetic diversity on the basis of unconscious odor associations, and that odors may be involved in the Coolidge effect.

Beginning with terrestrial Mesonychids, we can trace the path through Ambulocetus, which was a terrestrial animal that spent much time in the water, to Basilosaurus, which had nearly lost its functional legs, to the later Archaeocetes, which possessed no external legs at all and were specialized for a deep-sea life, to the modern whales.
Gingerich also pointed out, however, that Basilosaurus had a number of unique features in the spinal column which are not shared by modern whales, leading him to believe that, while it was a whale and a descendent of a Pakicetus-like animal, Basilosaurus died out without leaving any modern descendents.
Basilosaurus also had legs, but they weren't functional--Gish could scarcely argue that Basilosaurus was some kind of terrestrial Mesonychid and "not a whale".

The Origin of Whales and the Power of Independent Evidence
Additionally, the joint between the malleus (hammer) and incus of most mammals is oriented at an angle between the middle and the front of the animal (rostromedially), while in modern whales and in ungulates, it is oriented at an angle between the side and the front (rostrolaterally).
Although this list is by no means exhaustive, it is nonetheless clear that the whales have a wealth of vestigial features left over from their terrestrial ancestors.
Later, Flower (1883) recognized that the whales have persistent rudimentary and vestigial features characteristic of terrestrial mammals, thus confirming that the direction of descent was from terrestrial to marine species.

The chief aquatic adaptations manifested in this species are related to the problems of food-getting, locomotion, and respiration—problems which are always of vital importance in the adjustment of an animal of terrestrial origin and organization to partial or complete aquatic life.
The unique and ingenious methods whereby aquatic animals have solved their problems of maintenance are always interesting, particularly in a group having an immediate terrestrial ancestry, as is the case with aquatic insects.
It also appears to suggest that these larvae pass their early development in aquatic situations and then some of them migrate to certain terrestrial plants in order to find a hibernation place.
