Metal Reviews - Metal Coven Webzine - Metal Reviews - Pig Destroyer - Terrifyer
Terrifyer is a mammoth project by Pig Destroyer that took them two and a half years of hard work to make.
To put it bluntly, Terrifyer is one of the best metal releases of this year.
Terrifyer is perfectly distilled, aggressive noise for the tormented soul.

Pig Destroyer: Terrifyer - PopMatters Music Review
Painstakingly recorded over the past two years, Terrifyer is the end result, and for fans of the first album, the long wait was indeed worth it.
That said, there are a handful of songs that stand out, as the frenzied grind speed is interspersed with some great moments of old-school thrash metal, such as on the terrific "Towering Flesh", where Hull displays his guitar prowess on the song's nimble opening riff, and the thunderous breakdown a minute and a half later.
Terrifyer is superbly produced by Hull, and its double-disc combination of violent grindcore and ominous doom make it a brilliantly unsettling listening experience.

Terrifyer // Albums and Reviews // Lambgoat
Terrifyer lifts them, in my estimation, from a fun - but relatively unlistenable - grind band to an accomplished and shockingly versatile metal band.
While their other records always had a certain niche appeal, this will undoubtedly be a breakthrough record for the band and a leading contender on many critics' year-end top ten lists.
The first is the inclusion of a DVD containing the track "Natasha," an ambient doom epic longer than the entire Terrifyer album.

Terrifyer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Terrifyer is an album by American extreme metal band, Pig Destroyer.
The Japanese release of Terrifyer has 'Natasha' as a second CD with four bonus tracks.
Terrifyer also has a second version that comes with an "edited cover." The cover is basiclly a slip of paper to cover up the 'offensive' nature of the origninal album cover.

Terrifyer is not only an entertaining piece of brutal noise music, but American extreme music hasn't sound so vital since the demise of Brutal Truth.
And if you thought that the rural state of Virginia could only produce reactionary country and western music will learn with a really punishing lesson that kids in that state can be really angry.
Fans of extreme music will be delighted by this energetic album, that also comes as a double-disc set with a bonus audio DVD featuring a nearly 40 minutes long experimental track in dolby digital sound quality, although it never even comes close to the impressive quality of the regular disc.

southcoast247.com - Music - CD Review: Pig Destroyer — "Terrifyer"
After one spin, the listener is left audibly pummeled by one of the most brutal, cathartic, and destructive (in a musically expressionistic sense) albums to come out in recent years.
Terrifyer is a continuation of the themes presented in Prowler in the Yard, which are obsession and loss, shown through the morbid thoughts of a teenager driven to murder.
The short story in the liner notes, written by vocalist JR Hayes, is a Stephen King/Neil Gaiman-esque vision of a girl named Natasha aimed at sucking you deep into this bleak, horror-cursed world encased in a CD.

PIG DESTROYER return with Terrifyer, the long-awaited full-length follow up to their critically acclaimed album Prowler in the Yard.
As with Prowler in the Yard, the tracks on Terrifyer don't stand on their own so much as bleed into one frighteningly doomy whole.
I remember when I first read about Pig Destroyer and "Terrifyer" the reviewer commented the album as "the soundtrack of one having their spinal cord being removed with a hot ice pick via their neck".

Continuing to mix the must brutal of hardcore with the most technical of metal into one minute clips, this three piece have set themselves apart in a genre where it is hard to do.
"Terrifyer" is one of the most surpassing releases of the year.
Pig Destroyer are no longer a band that can be pushed to the side and now are not only demanding attention, they'll bash your head in for it.

Terrifyer showcases Pig Destroyer's growth with the simple addition of cohesion.
The songs blend and move together, which is saying a lot considering many of them clock out at under one minute.
An additional bonus audio DVD features a 37 minute song, "Natasha." To be perfectly honest, I was actually expecting Terrifyer to be more along the lines of this - an epic sludge fest that, although obviously paying a tribute to Neurosis, is a startlingly complex song.

Beginning with 38 Counts of Battery, and really coming of age with Prowler and now Terrifyer, Pig Destroyer are the most disturbing, emotional, visceral and unclean metal experience since Acid Bath's When The Kite String Pops.
That comparison is not meant to relate their sound so much as their mood and vision, as they're the only two bands that utilize imagery that makes my spine tingle and forces me to close the blinds and double check my closet before I go to bed.
All of the vitriol and lyrical insanity found on the underground classic Prowler in the Yard are present on the new album, Terrifyer.

Pig Destroyer are back and fans are anxiously awaiting "Terrifyer" in the same way that they've sat with bated breath over every album this band have released.
Neither is the fact that they haven't really gone off the beaten path on this new album, but they have tightened things up even further.
JR Hayes' makes the studio mic feedback on a regular basis, which shows exactly how unbridled the Pig Destroyer sound is. On top of all that, production courtesy of guitarist Scott Hull has made "Terrifyer" the heaviest Pig Destroyer offering to date.

Of the three highly anticipated sophomore albums to come out on Relapse in the second half of 2004 -- the other two being the Dillinger Escape Plan 's ghastly Miss Machine and Mastodon 's good but slightly over-ambitious Leviathan -- Terrifyer is the one that really lives up to the pre-release hype and expectations.
Coming three years after their proper debut full-length, A Prowler in the Yard, Terrifyer was billed early on as a two-CD concept album that would consist of one disc of short, blasting metal songs in the familiar Pig Destroyer style, plus another disc with a single extended, more experimental track.

I equate JR's lyrical approach to that of an Alfred Hitchcock thriller - suspenseful, very well thought out and sadistically perverted all at the same time.
"Terrifyer" is a fantastic album and more than satisfying as a "Prowler" precursor.
The songs are still deeply routed in grind/blast core, but there is a bit of a punk element trying to pry its way into the mix.

The band itself seems hesitant to describe themselves as grindcore, or even metal, as the vocalist explains that “I have always considered us a punk band or a hardcore band” and nowhere is that more evident than throughout Terrifyer, which seems to take much from Stooges-style punk rock and old school thrash.
Despite the gore-inflected cover art displayed on the bands two full-lengths - which may unfortunately cause some to dismiss the band as another horribly contrived gore-grind act - the band's lyrical focus is far more literary, if a little depraved.

Finally, Pig Destroyer have returned since their last offering "Prowler in the Yard" with "Terrifyer." This 32 minute beast is nothing like I have ever heard from these guys or this genre in general.
PIG DESTROYER was probably formed as a “let’s play some music in order not to lose touch even without bass player it don’t matter guys BAND” don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed their previous “PROWLER IN THE YARD” therefore I was expecting them to deliver an amazing underground-grind-core work.

Immediately upon hitting "play" with a Pig Destroyer album in your stereo, it becomes clear just how effective grindcore can be, when played with skill and conviction.
Still, every now and again, a band comes along that recognizes what grindcore is capable of, then does even more with it.
One thing that "Terrifyer" makes clear is how much grindcore owes to punk, as the music comes alive with the "fuck you" attitude of The Sex Pistols and their ilk (there's even a note that says "To Be Played at Maximum Volume").
