In the cut of Terror of Mechagodzilla you’re most likely to see today, it is literally impossible to tell what happens, not just in the climactic scene of Katsuma’s suicide, but in all the scenes involving violence against characters who aren’t lumbering around in 80-pound rubber kaiju suits.
Terror of Mechagodzilla is handicapped slightly by the efforts of Honda and screenwriter Shinichi Sekizawa to make this a more or less smooth continuation of Godzilla vs. the Cosmic Monster’s storyline, but even here, they enjoy more success than failure.

Not a sequel to the recent Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla, or the recent Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla, or even the original 1974 Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla (or the 1975 Terror of Mechagodzilla), the "II" was confusedly added to the video release apparently to differentiate this monsterfest from the other films in which the pair of titans have co-starred.
Like almost all of the Godzilla series, Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II offers quite a bit of dumb fun (although to me this was the most uninspired period of the series).
The film offers the usual scenes of destruction (and a nice return of the "Rodan blowing buildings down with his updraft" scenario), but the scientist/baby Godzilla love story gets awfully treacly, and the plot points are so by-the-numbers you can tick them off on one hand.
