September 11, 2001 attacks - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The September 11th attacks are among the most significant events to have occurred so far in the 21st century in terms of the profound economic, social, political, cultural and military effects that followed in the United States and many other parts of the world.
The National Commission on Terrorist Attacks upon the United States, known as the 9-11 Commission, released its report on July 22, 2004, concluding that the attacks were conceived and implemented by al-Qaeda operatives.
The attacks were denounced by mainstream media and governments world-wide, with the headline of Paris, France's "Le Monde" newspaper being prototypical: "Today We Are All Americans." Approximately one month after the attacks the USA led a wide coalition of international forces into Afghanistan in pursuit of al-Qaeda forces.

The attacks were the most lethal attack ever by a foreign force on the U.S., and the first upon the mainland since the War of 1812.
In September 2004, just before the three-year statute of limitations expired, the insurers for the World Trade Center filed suit against American Airlines, United Airlines, and Pinkerton's airport security firm, alleging their negligence allowed the planes to be hijacked.
Because the Air Transportation Act, which was passed after September 11, limits the liability of airlines, plane manufacturers, and airports to the amount of their insurance coverage, this case will likely be combined with the consolidated master case filed in 2003.

Certainly the blitz in London, the terrorist IRA bombings in England, the "battle" for Algerian independence and the ongoing violence in the Mid East hardened those populations to the fragility of the human condition to a much greater extent than most Americans have been accustomed.
Certainly, the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon were "despicable" and evil and should not be condoned, ignored or minimized.

And Saturn-Pluto is a perfect representation for the terrorists attacking the existing structures of power, coming as they do from the dark unknown places in the underground of civilization.
Although it is difficult to say this, there was a sense in which this event was somehow fated, and may eventually lead to the generosity of Americans toward the rest of the world, as well as act as a stimulant to their anger.
In the aftermath of the attacks, rather than involving the U. N., or another legally constituted world consortium of nations, the republican administration of G. Bush Junior has chosen to pursue basically a unilateral policy of attacks on terrorist camps and the controlling Taliban rulers of Afghanistan, the new Viet Nam of our era.

The Terrorist Attacks of 11 September 2001
The attack has often been called a "cowardly act." While it may be shocking and reprehensible, it can scarcely be called cowardly.
Within hours of the attacks, commentators everywhere were talking about how this would usher in a new era of security that would exact a large price in terms of civil liberties.
The leaders of many of these nations have supported the US and decried the terrorist attacks, but many of their own people do not support this position.

The attacks on New York and Washington became a media event in which fiction and reality were dramatically molded together while at the same time tens of thousands each day face their death ignored by the world or soon forgotten.

 CNN.com - Moussaoui pleads guilty to terror charges - Apr 23, 2005
He said the goal of his plan was to free Sheikh Omar Abdul Rahman, the terrorist nicknamed "The Blind Sheikh" who is serving a life sentence for conspiring to bomb the World Trade Center in 1993 and other New York landmarks.
Before the nearly hour-long hearing ended, Moussaoui said that during the sentencing phase he would again bring up the government's refusal to allow him to interview alleged September 11 master planners Khalid Shaikh Mohammed and Ramzi Binalshibh, who have told interrogators Moussaoui was not to participate in the attacks.
Moussaoui was arrested August 16, 2001, in Minnesota after raising suspicions at a flight school when he showed up paying close to $7,000 cash for Boeing 747 simulator training.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 3, 2002)---Although the nation suffered incalculable personal and economic losses on September 11, 2001, little has been written about the destruction of America’s cultural and historical legacy -- until now.
Heritage Preservation, the nation’s leading non-profit advocate for the proper care of our cultural heritage, has just published Cataclysm and Challenge, a 26-page report offering the first comprehensive study of what was lost -- both in Lower Manhattan and at the Pentagon -- on that day.
It provides an overview of the artwork, historic buildings and artifacts, archives and libraries that were destroyed or damaged, as well as the condition of those that survived.
