 Terry Bozzio Interview 2005
Terry Bozzio would definitely fall into this category, his work resume if you printed it out would be a mile long, to state it more simply, people flat out want to work with this guy.
Terry: Yeah she said “What about you and Steve Stevens”, I thought “Yeah, I’ll give it a shot”, he was a little bit [pauses]; most people just don’t have the abandonment or recklessness that I have when it comes to music.
Terry: Yeah but with the second one we had a bit more of a luxurious atmosphere, maybe a week of rehearsals and then 10 days of recording, but that was complicated by analog tape running at 15ips, punching in was rough, some of the techniques that we used to record made things difficult.

Bozzio describes his standard show as basically a solo drum performance that's accompanied by a seminar in the English-speaking countries he visits, and just the performance in non-English-speaking countries.
Well, as Terry Bozzio certainly knows, they come in awfully handy, especially when you're attempting to describe a new and innovative style of music, performed on that most ancient/modern of instruments, the drum.

Terry Bozzio (drums), Tony Levin (bass/stick) and Steve Stevens (guitars) meld together wonderfully in this incredible project recorded over a span of only four days in an environment where each member had equal and unconditional input to its improvisational composition.
Known for their musical efforts with a seemingly countless number of artists, Bozzio (Frank Zappa, Missing Persons), Levin (King Crimson, Peter Gabriel, John Lennon), and Stevens (Billy Idol, Atomic Playboys) bring their influences to the album with a strangely comfortable feel.
From the moody opening of The Sun Road, to the raucous noise of Dark Corners, to the flamenco fusion of Duende, Bozzio Levin Stevens introduce the record with a musical prowess that is both unpredictable and daring.

Terry Bozzio + Metropole Orkest | Chamber Works
Terry Bozzio is perhaps best known as a chops-laden drummer who's more at home in the pop/rock and fusion worlds.
A member of the late Frank Zappa’s band from 1976 onwards, Bozzio was required to deal with complex compositions that were at times almost classical in their orchestral complexity: no surprise, given Zappa’s keen interest in avant garde 20th Century composers like Edgar Varèse.
Bozzio's tenure with Zappa may have cultivated a special interest in longer-form orchestral works, or it may already have been there.

PROGRESSIVEWORLD.NET: REVIEWS BY JOHN "BOBO" BOLLENBERG
For a lot of Bozzio diehards this track alone will be worth the album's money, although for my taste this incentive isn't what most of us musiclovers were waiting for.
For Terry himself "Sick Jazz Surgery" probably is an ideal exercise whilst for would-be drummers, this track will remain untouchable for as long as they practise.
Because Bozzio himself is an audio buff, no doubt he felt very privileged when Mark Gage put his teeth into remixing "Melt," as it's always interesting to hear what other people might do with your music in order to deliver something wacky and new.

Terry Bozzio and Billy Sheehan on drums and bass is like having the Blue Angels and Tony Hawk on planes and skateboards.
If you pick the tracks apart, you'll find that Bozzio is indeed all over the skins, and Sheehan is somehow using 16 fingers on the bass strings, but the thing that sets this album apart is that Bozzio's produced it all to serve the songs.
I don't necessarily feel as if I experienced nine short films (there are ten songs anyway), but I did soak up some eerie atmosphere and gain a lot of respect for both musicians, who handled every instrument on the album and recorded much of it in their homes.

Terry does a great job and this cd is different than his previous solo projects.
This album is a bit boring and, as with Terry's other solo drum music albums, it tends to be far to frantic to listen to comfortably for any length of time.
I'm sure that drum aficionados will appreciate Bozzio's unique approach to his drum work here, but the songs are so long and drawn out (and far from rock), that they tend to lose their appeal.

With most of the songs ("pieces" for you classical purists) clocking in at over five and sometimes 10 minutes, you know that you can't possibly measure what is going to happen from the initial moments of a song.
Nonetheless, Bozzio never rests on his laurels, stretching himself further on "Moguli", which has some Middle Eastern textures, sort of like a classical rendition of Zeppelin's "Kashmir" circa No Quarter, with that same plodding, deliberate flavor.

The storied career of Terry Bozzio has elevated him to the pantheon of legendary drummers at a relatively young age, which is to say that there are plenty of musical ideas still to come from this talented percussion visionary.
Live in Concert is a new video release ($29.95) from Drum Workshop that captures Bozzio in a solo concert that showcases the complex musical statements of the percussionist's current compositions.
