Carr realized early on that he was not going to be a great writer.
Terry was firmly in the first camp, too practical to escape very far from reality.

 AUTHOR BIOGRAPHY AND BIBLIOGRAPHY
Terry Carr was born in Grants Pass, Oregon, in 1937 and lived most of his life in California's Bay Area.
In the early 1960s he began to work as an editor and to write fiction, most of it short stories, which were collected in The Light at the End of the Universe (1976).
In the 1980s Ace re-hired Terry to resume control of the Specials (this time restricted to first novels) on a freelance basis.

Terry Martin Carr Follow-Up A few days ago, the producer of "On Golden Pond," Terry Martin Carr and his daughter were found dead in Lake County CA under mysterious circumstances (previous blog here).
Terry was born and raised in the Bay Area and obviously rather gifted...he attended Stanford when he was 15.
Terry's brother is from Lake County (east of Mendocino County), but he evidently had no knowledge of their arrival or why they might have gone down there.

Terry Carr was a talented short story writer (“The Dance of the Changer and the Three,” and “Ozymandias” are prime examples of his art), and novelist (Cirque, 1977).
Carr was, his life long, a devoted fan and fan writer and critic.
Because Terry Carr was a selective collector, saving only the fanzines he thought significant for posterity, his collection has provided an invaluable template for further development of Eaton’s fanzine holdings.

LCSO detectives found Terry and Arieka Carr laying in the back of the vehicle in its cargo area, their heads near the tailgate; Perdock's report states there were no signs of struggle or foul play either inside or outside of the vehicle.
Arieka Carr was laying face down; Terry Carr was found laying face up, his torso across his daughter's back, with his head resting over her right shoulder, according to the report.
The weight of her father's body Terry Carr weighed 212 pounds and was 5-feet-9 inches tall was heavy enough that it suffocated the 55-pound, 4-foot-7-inch tall Arieka, who subsequently died of lack of oxygen.

Terry Carr was born in 1937 and got involved in science fiction fandom soon thereafter.
Terry was one of the two SF bay area fans responsible for the famous hoax fan 'CarlJoshua Brandon' after whom the Carl Brandon Society www.carlbrandon.org takes its name.
Terry lived in the San Franciscobay area and passed away in 1987.

 Best Science Fiction of the Year 2. Terry Carr.
Editor Carr picks this out as being the novella of the year, and puts it forward as a classic.
Wolfe now stands head and shoulders over the vast majority of his contemporaries (and there are more than three decades of contemporaries!) and it is a rare treat to finally get round to reading such a classic.
Carr points out the world-building, but for me it is the humanity in the story which particularly attracts.

Arieka Carr, who weighed 53 pounds and was 4 feet 5 inches tall, was lying on her stomach on the driver’s side of the cargo area with her head near the rear hatch of the vehicle.
Five-foot-9-inch, 212-pound Terry Carr was found on his back in cargo area with his legs behind the front passenger seat but his torso lying across his daughter’s back and his head resting over her right shoulder near the interior wall on the driver’s side of the Jeep.

Carr weighed about 212 pounds and his daughter was about 53 pounds, Perdock said Tuesday.
Carr's wife, Chikako Carr, 50, said she still has no idea why her husband took off while she was in a grocery store restroom.
