And his and Terry Labonte's races - and the wrecks, arguments and near fisticuffs that went with them - became the Saturday-night stuff of legend in the mid-1970s.
After a unanimous decision by the Corpus Christi City Council, plans are underway to rename the Nueces River Park to the Labonte Park at a special dedication on Wednesday, September 26, 2001 from 1p.m to 2 p.m.

Terry Labonte was born, Terrence Lee Labonte, on November 16,1956 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Bob and Martha Labonte.
Terry's first victory was September 1,1980 in the Southern 500 in Darlington, where he beat out David Pearson, Harry Gant, Benny Parsons and the late Neil Bonnett for the win.
