A notable example is the October 17, 1943 Sunday page where the recently commissioned Terry receives a speech on his responsibilities as a fighter pilot, including the need to respect his support crew and the military bureaucracy, from his trainer, Flip Corkin.
Although Terry and the Pirates had made Caniff famous the strip was actually owned by the newspaper syndicate and, seeking creative control of his own work, Caniff left the strip in 1946.
Terry stayed in the Air Force, became a full-grown man and reached the rank of Colonel.

Terry and the Pirates was an action-adventure comic strip created by cartoonist Milton Caniff in the tradition of Little Nemo in Slumberland in that there was a running unlike most modern comic strips.

Tonight we are promised an appearance by Terry And The Pirates, an unbelievably fluid agglomeration of musicians that has, at one time or another, played host to many of the Bay Area stalwarts and currently includes Greg Douglass and the ubiquitous John Cipollina on dual lead guitars.

This appears to be Malaya or India, or the hills of the Columbia back lot with a few potted palm trees, so right away we lose the exotic setting of the original.
William Tracy at age 23 does a pretty fair job with the role of Terry, trying hard to act young by letting his voice crack every little while and maintaining a high level of enthusiasm, and Jeff York is passable as Pat Ryan, given the material he has to work with.
The villains all talk like extras from a cowboy movie, and, yep, there's good old Charles King, bad guy of a hundred westerns, as a member of the gang, with a guy in a raggedy gorilla costume thrown in for good measure.
