  Don Markstein's Toonopedia: Mighty Mouse
Even before the Terrytoons character's initial release, however, another character named Supermouse was in the works.
In part, this was due to a decision to team him with an earlier Terrytoons character, Oil Can Harry, the villain in a brief and unjustly forgotten series of "Mellerdramas" the studio did in the late 1930s.
It was also in 1945 that he joined the cast of Terrytoons Comics, which at the time was published by the company that would eventually become Marvel.

Mighty Mouse - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mighty Mouse is an animated superhero mouse character created by the Terrytoons studio for 20th Century Fox.
These characters were created for a series of Mighty Mouse cartoons that spoofed the old cliffhanger serials of the days of silent film; the cartoons usually began with Mighty Mouse and Pearl Pureheart already in a desperate situation, as if they were the next chapter of the serial.
Mighty Mouse was not extraordinarily popular, but he did become a cultural icon after Paul Terry sold the Terrytoon cartoon library to broadcast television.

Terrytoons was, in some respects, the worst of the major-studio animation companies.
At Terrytoons Tyer could roam through a cartoon, transforming the rather arbitrary scenes he was assigned into displays of graphic ingenuity.
Though this might be a drawback in some senses, in others it was a boon; there are Terrytoons worth watching solely for the Tyer animation in them.

However, his rise up the ladder at Terrytoons was very rapid, for reasons having as much to do with unsettled conditions at the studio as with Bakshi's own talent.
Deitch, who was thirty-one when he took charge at Terrytoons, had worked for UPA's studios in Hollywood and New York, and he tried to reshape Terrytoons into the UPA image: great sophistication in drawing and stories, limited animation, an emphasis on color and design over movement.
The traditional concept of the director as the supervisor of the picture—setting the timing for the cartoon and overseeing the story, the layouts, the animation, the voices, the backgrounds, and so on—had been abandoned, and the man who had the title of "director" was, in fact, merely a layout man and animator combined.
