Japan coach Zico has called Teruyuki Moniwa into his World Cup squad as a replacement for the injured Makoto Tanaka.
Jubilo Iwata defender Tanaka, 30, was expected to be a member of Japan's starting line-up for their Group F opener against Australia on June 12, but a hamstring problem means he will take no part in Germany.
Moniwa, 24, currently plays his club football for FC Tokyo but is short of senior international experience.
