SitNews - Ketchikan's 'Fish House Tessie' by June Allen
Tessie was born and bred in a region in Europe known for its hop fields and excellent brews, as well as its delicate china dinnerware.
Tessie grew up in the shadow of the hilltop Loket Castle, a still solid medieval fortress that today is a tourist museum attraction displaying the region's exquisitely delicate chinaware.
Tessie was just 16 when, accompanied by her grandmother, she set sail for America to join other family members already there.

Tessie was one of several unidentified swimming objects discussed at a recent lecture by Charles Goldman, Professor of Limnology (the study of lakes) from the University of California, Davis.
Also, as Goldman said: "We think that a lot of the Tessie reports are actually colliding boat wakes which produce a series of waves." In the eye of the imagination, these waves could be the humps of a serpent.
One Tahoe local, Patty, who isn't a firm believer in Tessie but says she enjoys the tale, postulated that perhaps there is an underwater tunnel between Loch Ness and Lake Tahoe and that the monster spotted in each lake is one and the same.

These sightings of "Tahoe Tessie," as she is called (after Loch Ness's "Nessie") have caused quite a stir.
On the one hand, those who have seen Tessie naturally believe in her existence, and a Tahoe Tessie Museum and phone hotline for sightings have been established in Kings Beach on the north shore of the lake.
Now I have never seen Tessie myself, but nevertheless I am quite sure that she is out there, feeding off the mouth of Emerald Bay, or cavorting in the depths of Zephyr Cove, or perhaps exploring the legendary hole in the bottom of the lake in Carnelian Bay.

I’m speaking of course of “Tessie,” the lilting waltz that was the hit of the Broadway stage exactly 100 years ago.
Tessie first opened her arms to the Sox on the fateful afternoon of October 7 1903, a day that should live forever in Boston baseball history.
Tessie must be up there in that heaven where forgotten sweethearts go, tearfully pining for her lost loves -- the leaping, sliding, dashing heroes of her youth, and their jaunty, prancing faithful who lustily sang her praises, the Royal Rooters.
