This Pendroy family founded what was originally referred to as the Pendroy Colony in the North Dakota Territory which became Pendroy, North Dakota near the current towns of Velva and Towner N. in the Souris (called Mouse) River area in north central North Dakota.
I base this on the written comment in 1941 biography of James (b 1862) Martin Pendroy, written by his son Charles Pendroy in 1941.

In 1868 he was elected clerk of Choteau county for three years, and in 1871 was elected county commissioner, and served two years, being again elected to that office in 1875 for a period of two years more.
The Catholic priests had opened a school on the Teton and he was placed in their charge in October, 1859- in 1860 he was sent to their school at Sun river, and they opening an other school at St. Ignatius, he was sent there in March 1861.
In 1863-4 he was in the mines of Oregon; in 1865 came to Montana, and followed mining and prospecting along the Blackfoot, at Elk creek and in the vicinity of Helena.
