Photocatalytic process for purifying water polluted by tetrahydrothiophene - US Patent 6153112   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
Tetrahydrothiophene, an odorizing thioether, is normally added to gas for household and industrial use to reveal accidental losses along the distribution lines.
At the end of the process, the tetrahydrothiophene is simply and economically eliminated to obtain completely deodorized water without the organic pollutant, completely transformed into carbon dioxide and sulfate ion.
Further samples of the dispersion are taken after one and two hours of stirring of the dispersion at room temperature and at a constant pressure of 100 mm Hg of oxygen, with the UV lamp switched off.

 RALPH GRAY TRUCKING CO.
Tetrahydrothiophene is a stenching agent used in the natural gas industry to impart a strong, noxious odor, similar to that of sewer gas, for the purpose of providing a warning in the event of a gas leak.
Tetrahydrothiophene is useful for this purpose because its characteristic odor is apparent to most people at a level (1 ppb in air) below exposure levels which are associated with transient health effects such as eye or respiratory tract irritation.
As noted above, tetrahydrothiophene is a useful warning agent for propane or natural gas leaks because its noxious odor is apparent below exposure levels which are associated with transient irritant effects.

 Patent 4395479
Stripping compositions for removing resist materials from substrates comprise compositions of a 2-pyrrolidinone compound and a tetrahydrothiophene 1,1-dioxide compound.
More particularly, this invention relates to a novel resist stripping composition comprising a mixture of a 2-pyrrolidinone compound and a tetrahydrothiophene 1,1-dioxide compound which can also include polyethylene glycol and/or a diethylene glycol monoalkyl ether and to stripping resists with said stripping compositions.
Compositions of this invention, denoted as compositions A through I, which correspond in composition to those so designated in Tables IA and IB, are compared to results obtained for the individual components alone for three generally difficult to remove photoresists, namely Shipley's AZ-1350J photoresist, Tokyo Ohka Kogyo Co. Ltd.'s OFPR-800 photoresist and Fugu's FPPR-200 photoresist.

Tetrahydrothiophene 1-oxide as an electron acceptor for Escherichia coli.
Tetrahydrothiophene 1-oxide as an electron acceptor for Escherichia coli.Escherichia coli used tetrahydrothiophene 1-oxide (THTO) as an electron acceptor for anaerobic growth with glycerol as a carbon source; the THTO was reduced to tetrahydrothiophene.
Cell extracts also reduced THTO to tetrahydrothiophene in the presence of a variety of electron donors.

Conjugation of busulfan with glutathione results in a positively charged sulfonium ion that is highly unstable under physiological conditions (Hassan and Ehrsson, 1987a).
The sulfonium ion is cleaved to the lipophilic compound tetrahydrothiophene (THT), which undergoes a series of oxidation reactions.
Formation of tetrahydrothiophene (THT) as an indicator for GSTA1-1 activity was substantial in GSTA-1-transfected cells.
