Tetsubo ("Warhammer" in Japanese) was one of these and was planned to deal with the distant land of Yamato an island that lay beyond even the fabled land of Cathay.
It is possible to endlessly speculate about the motives for abandoning the book but it is clear from the version we have today that Tetsubo would have been a pretty unusual book in the WFRP lineup.
Having had GW reject the manuscript Dave retained a copy and several people were able to get a copy and have a look at what the fuss was all about.

 Tetsubo Hammer - GuildWiki
These hammers are sought after because of their unique knockdown style, which involves hitting the foe with the top of the hammer's head, rather than the side.

The only distinctions are that the Kanabo is could be all wood or iron and was often huge, whereas I believe the Testubo virtually always had metal in its construction, thus the tetsu (iron) reference.
I think another thing the term 'tetsubo' can be used for are the palm sticks attached to rings also known as 'tessun' or 'suntetsu'.

Tetsubo was originally written by Dave Morris and Jamie Thompson.
Tetsubo has been published as an article series in the British fanzine Carnel (Carnel is still being published and the editor Robert Rees still has plans to do some things on Tetsubo, which may even include new material(!) by Dave Morris, one of the original authors.).

After the mempo, I'll have to finish my tetsubo and post pics for that.
Im sure if we all share our sucesses and our problems with tetsubo construction we can design an easy to make tetsubo that ist junk preety fast!
I designed my tetsubo for last years kotei's which turned out really nice, solid redwood stained to a deep red, with a laced and wrapped handle.

I have found a tetsubo made from quality wood.
I was under the impression that bokken were practice swords.
