However, according to Aija Priedite the UN coordinator in charge of the UN's Latvian language teaching programme, passing the language proficiency test does not mean that a teacher is capable of teaching adequately in Latvian.

Latvia’s Central Elections Commission provisional results indicate the winner of the European parliamentary elections in Latvia is “Tevzemei un Brivibai/LNNK” (For Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK), which received 29.82 percent of votes, meaning four out of nine seats in the European Parliament.
The bill was approved by 61 members of parliament, and opposed by 29 (all members of the parties “Jaunais laiks” (JL) and “Tevzemei un brivibai”/LNNK).
A new CD ”Rami un ne” has just been released by the folklore group Ilgi and singers from the youth folk festival PEPT (Pulka eimu, pulka teku).

Designed by Kārlis Zāle, the friezes around the base of the sculpture depict Latvians singing, working and fighting for their freedom, while the three stars in the maiden's hands represent the three historical regions of the country: Kurzeme, Vidzeme and Latgale.
It bears the inscription 'Tevzemei un Brivibai' (For Fatherland and Freedom) Locals are always placing flowers at the base of the monument, an act for which people were deported to Siberia in Soviet times.
The honour guard changes every hour on the hour from 09:00 - 18:00.

To my mind this is the party of the capitalist rich.
Also in the Saeima is Tevzemei un Brivibai (For Fatherland and Freedom) a declared rightwing, nationalist hypocracy party and Socialdemokratu Apvieniba (Social Democrats Union) a party made up of lots of former Communists and modern social Democrats, which participated in the election for the first time ever.
They were elected into the Saeima with the hope that this political grouping would be for the time being the only political power that would more or less stand for the peoples interests.
