 South Texas State Fair - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The South Texas State Fair is an annual regional state fair held in Beaumont, Texas.
In 2004, the South Texas State Fair moved from the Beaumont Fairgrounds on the east side of the city to Ford Park on I-10 on the west side.
The 2005 fair was cancelled due to the extensive damage that Hurricane Rita inflicted on the region.

 The Historic Heart of Fair Park - Texas Hall of State
The Hall of State, without a doubt, is the grandest building standing in Fair Park, perhaps in all of Dallas (some might say in the whole State of Texas).
The Hall of State was constructed in 1936 at a cost of $1,200,000, a sum all the more remarkable for being spent during the middle of the Great Depression.
In 1938 after the Texas Centennial and Pan American Expositions had run their course, the State of Texas leased the building to the City of Dallas, which in turn gave custody of the Hall of State to the Dallas Historical Society.

I have 3 fairs in Indiana that have great food, the Elkhart County fair in Goshen, the St. joseph County fair in South Bend and Of course, the grand daddy of them all, the Indiana State fair in Indi.
At the Elkhart County fair, my favorites are the bar-b-que pork chops at the Elkhart County prok producers tent, the bar-b-que chicken at the Nelson's Golden glow tent, and the home made pie at the pie tent.
The Florida State Fair in Tampa (always held in February which is the height of the agricultural growing season down here) always has a guy on the midway who sells tons of burgers at a buck each.

Fair Park was "born" in 1886 when eighty acres of "hog-wallow prairie" on the outskirts of East Dallas were chosen as the site of the "Dallas State Fair," the "grand-daddy" of today's State Fair of Texas.
A rival "Texas State Fair" was held in North Dallas that same year when some of the original fair's founders broke away, accusing the others of self-interest in the selection of the East Dallas site.
Between 1987 and 1989 the exterior of the Hall of State was cleaned and repaired and its interior restored and remodeled.

"Comet II" was created in memory of the Comet that previously operated at the State Far of Texas and the first location for the newly refurbished ride to operate.
This was a unique arrangement with the State Fair Of Texas where the fair provided storage during the off-season -- the roller coaster still stood, but the cars, chains, motors and such were removed and stored.
Since leaving the fair, the ride has returned to the E S Webb Co in Wichita, KS where it is in storage as of 6/5/2003.
