The Trinity River is a major Texas waterway that passes from the northwest right by the southern portion of downtown Dallas as it heads southeast to Houston.
During the days of the Republic of Texas, the DFW metroplex was mostly uninhabited by Europeans, but settlers began to find their way N in the 1840's.

Pedernales Falls State Park may be reached by traveling 9 miles east of Johnson City on FM 2766, or by traveling west of Austin for 32 miles on U.S. 290, then north on FM 3232 for 6 miles.

Faced with rising construction costs and demands, the state expects to adopt new regulations by the beginning of next year allowing the Texas Department of Transportation and many counties to convert state highways to toll roads.
Under the proposal, the toll revenue would be dedicated solely to the state highway with the tollbooths.
State gas taxes have not been raised in 12 years because of an aversion to new taxes and a reluctance to raise a tax that does not completely address the growing road funding requirements.

History: Lockhart State Park is 263.7 acres west of Lockhart in Caldwell County.
The park was constructed by Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), between 1935 and 1938 and was opened as a state park in 1948.
Locally, the Emanuel Episcopal Church in Lockhart is one of the oldest Protestant churches in continuous use in Texas.
