Many Texians had friends or relatives who had fought behind the cotton bales, and their papers are replete with references to that contest, which seemed to validate one of the prevailing tenets of Jacksonian Democracy.
Texian volunteers, convinced that they were responding to a threat against their liberty, had seen their worst fears realized in mid-September 1835, when Mexican General Martín Perfecto de Cós landed a punitive force of five hundred troops at Copano Bay.

Tejano Texian - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
As revealed by the writings of colonial Tejano Texians such as Antonio Menchaca, the Texas Revolution was first and foremost a colonial Tejano cause, the Anglo Americans simply joined the colonial Tejanos in that cause, having been invited and recruited to do so by the colonial Tejanos, the Tejano Texians.
For these reasons a colonial Tejano, or Tejano Texian, is more accurately classified as a "Spaniard Texan" or "Spaniard Texian" or "Spaniard American" or as a "Texan of Spaniard heritage", as opposed to a "new Tejano" who is of Mexican heritage.
The American Cowboy culture and music was born from the meeting of the Anglo-American Texians who were colonists from the American South and the original Tejano Texian pioneers and their "vaquero" or "cow man" culture.

Texian Iliad -reviewed by Monty Rainey
In his book, TEXIAN ILIAD: A MILITARY HISTORY OF THE TEXAS REVOLUTION, Hardin goes far beyond the usual narratives on Texas history, which often tend to narrow their scope to selected events such as the Alamo, San Jacinto, or possibly Goliad.
Hardin concisely depicts the seemingly endless power struggle and how many of the volunteers followed their own leader and ignored "high command", such as it was.
If your goal is the best accounting of the Alamo, there may well be superior sources, but for an overall narrative of the entire history of the Texas Revolution, this book is at the top of the list.

On 27 March, 1836, while bulk of the 342 Texians executed that day were being marched out in groups of 100 to their execution site, Fannin himself and some 40 other badly wounded were executed within the walls of the Presidio.
The reason for this is that among the slain at Goliad was a former gunner in Admiral Nelson's fleet who was said to have participated in the Battle of Trefalger.
It was palpable to me that Texans do not like to have it called to their memory that Fannin and his men surrendered, and were then executed according to the then existing "Law Of The Nation" that was sovereign at the time.
