Text figures - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
High-quality typesetting prefers text figures in running text: they visually harmonize better with lower case letters and small capitals, and their greater variety of shape facilitates reading.
Text figures are known in German as Mediävalziffern (“medieval numerals”), in French as chiffres elzéviriens and in Spanish as números elzevirianos, and in Polish as cyfry nautyczne (“nautical numerals”).
The use of text figures also suffered setbacks in the twentieth-century modern period (along with attempts to do away with typographic case altogether) and they all but disappeared with the advent of phototypesetting.

Text figures (sometimes referred to as old-style, hanging, non-lining, minuscule, or medieval figures, digits, or numerals) are a style of Arabic numeral (One of the symbols 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0) s designed for visual harmony (The structure of music with respect to the composition and progression of chords) with running text.
High-quality typesetting (additional info and facts about typesetting) prefers text figures in running text: they meld better with the lower case (and with small capitals (A character having the form of an upper-case letter but the same height as lower-case letters)), and their greater variety of shape facilitates reading.
Lining figures are, however, called for in the midst of upper-case type, and they sometimes are said to work better in tables and spreadsheet (A screen-oriented interactive program enabling a user to lay out financial data on the screen) s.

Figure 1, relative abundances can be determined for F+1 and F+2 profiles using a mass resolution that separates the analyte profile from interfering profiles, but that does not resolve multiple profiles due to the analyte.
Figure 4 illustrates that exact mass differences for small neutral losses are determinable using the calibration mass option of the MID software, even when the correct composition of the ions is unknown.
In Figure 4b, the use of incorrect exact masses caused the wrong mass range to be monitored for the second and third profiles, and they are not centered in their displays.

The hydrolysis of GTP of course is facilitated at a temperature of 37 C and stopped at temperatures of 4 C. This figure shows that, as the oligomers assemble, they form a series of rings, 25 nm in diameter.

In the example in figure 1, the leghaemoglobin (Lgb2_Luplu) gets a weight of 0.442 which is equal to the length of the branch from the root to it.
In the globin example in figure 1 you align the sequences in the following order: human vs. horse beta globin; human vs. horse alpha globin; the 2 alpha globins vs. the 2 beta globins; the myoglobin vs. the haemoglobins; the cyanohaemoglobin vs the haemoglobins plus myoglobin; the leghaemoglobin vs.
In the globin example in figure 1, the two alpha globins get downweighted because they are almost duplicate sequences (as do the two beta globins); they receive a combined weight of only slightly more than if a single alpha globin was used.

Figures and tables must be numbered consecutively based on the order in which they are referenced in the text.
If a figure is complex or difficult to understand, it should always be discussed in the text and the caption should mention this fact.
Figures should include an in-text citation at the end of the caption if they are taken from another source ("from Sanders and other, 1985, Figure 3") or if they are based on another sources figure ("modified from Sanders and other, 1985, Figure 3") or if they incorporate data or concepts from other sources (e.g.
