Notes on Textpattern | ::[ Empty Spaces ]::   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
After more than a year of using Textpattern on a couple of projects, I have collected some usage notes and documented some modifications made to improve my, and hopefully the visitor', experience with this CMS.
On the Textpattern forums, there is an active thread that discusses this further.
With the release of Textpattern 4.0, the comments form has improved lots, by allowing site managers nearly complete control over the organisation, location, use of custom messages … for the comments area; I won't go into the how–to details here, the TextBook wiki has more details.

The new user may find Textpattern’s metaphor of sections, pages, articles and forms to be a bit daunting initially but once the user masters these features he will be on the way to designing well structured standards compliant web sites with Textpattern.

I’ve been using Textpattern for some time now, but until the last couple of releases, I always had a few minor complaints.
Textpattern has always been one of the more elegant solutions, if not the most elegant, but it was lacking the level of control in some areas.
I’ve been using Textpattern since RC1, which isn’t as long as some, but long enough to know that it’s coming into its own as a “contender.” What drew me to it initially was the ease of templating, as opposed to the multiple PHP includes necessary for WordPress.

Textpattern is a web application designed to help overcome these and other hurdles to publishing online, and to simplify the production of well-structured, standards-compliant web pages.
Built into Textpattern is Textile, a simple syntax for nudging plain text into structurally sound and stylistically rich web content.
Adding new links is easy through the Textpattern editor, or easier still by way of a Javascript bookmarklet, which presents a popup input to you wherever you are on the web.

 Wion: Understanding Textpattern Building Blocks
I’ve found from spending time in the Textpattern Forum this is not always the case, and could be one reason why some people find Textpattern difficult at first.
By the end, a reader new to Textpattern should have an understanding of how the building blocks are associated with particular facets of site structure and content organization (as the case may be).
This broader notion of content is necessary with Textpattern, because it is these various sorts of content that are dynamically managed (even the CSS styling), and which subsequently provides all the pieces of a Web page that a visitor will see and interact with.

Textpattern’s feed support is essentially “our way or the highway.” Some users figured out how to hack the source to get it to work, as described in this forum thread.
I was starting to think that Technorati couldn’t be integrated into Textpattern without some hacking, until I realized that Ping-O-Matic does the pinging for you and all I had to get working was the tagging.
Long-term, I may take the time to submit a patch to the textpattern developers so it does what I want, but I’d have to write the patch, submit it to them, get them to apply it, and then wait for that version to be released.

Trick: Textpattern with page dependent header meta description | Performancing.com
I had a Textpattern feature request for a page dependent meta description plug-in but found the TXP solution myself through some research in the Textpattern forum by combining some hints.
The Textpattern problem is that it is not possible to use article related Textpattern tags directly for the page header.
The trick is to render the content in a separate Textpattern 'brick' before you call it from a second Textpattern 'brick' which is rendered directly in the page header section (where only specific tags are allowed).
