 Texvc - Meta
texvc is a proposal by Taw to implement a substantial portion of AMSLaTeX in MediaWiki.
For example, texvc's structure doesn't lend itself to the use of \big and its friends (much less to \left and \right), since these act on an immediately following delimiter (a concept that texvc does not recognise) rather than on what would normally be the argument to a LaTeX command.
This is in contrast to texvc, which is sometimes still confusing to me (in its particulars, not its overall scope), even though I've watched its entire development (as presented to the wikis and the mailing lists).

This just says that all "equivalent" fractions, which differ only by a common factor in the numerator and denominator, are actually equal.
This is similar to discarding everything from the set except the "reduced fractions" -- those for which the numerator and denominator have no common divisor.
It is straightforward to prove the axioms which describe the rational numbers within this model, thus showing that it is, indeed, a model for the rationals.

Due to the nature of the web environment, this is done in an efficient (cached) and security-conscious way -- allowing third parties to pass unsanitised text through the standard TeX engine is a bad idea if you value your files.

Anyone care to make a Windows texvc executable available for those of us who can't get it together to build their own?
By the way, texvc produces slashes (/) in filenames, which results in errors on windows.
I found out texvc couldn't find/create the necessary files, due to the unix/win differences in pathes: a unix-path looks like /user/home/blabla, while a windows path looks like c:\windows\sucks.
