Teymur Bakhtiar (تیمور بختیار in Persian) (1914–1970) was an Iranian general and the founder and head of SAVAK from 1958 to 1961, when he was dismissed by the Shah.

Bakhtiar was appointed its first director, only to be dismissed in 1961, allegedly for organizing a coup; he was assassinated in 1970 under mysterious circumstances, probably on the shah's direct order.

Bakhtiar was born in 1914 to Sardar Moazzam Bakhtiari, a chieftain of the eminent Bakhtiari tribe.
Bakhtiar waged an extensive campaign against the Communist Tudeh (additional info and facts about Tudeh) party; he arrested and had 24 Tudeh leaders summarily tried and executed, including Khalil Tahmasebi, the assassin of former Prime Minister Ali Razmara.
Bakhtiar was made head of the newly-formed intelligence and security service SAVAK (additional info and facts about SAVAK) in February 1958.

Its first director was General Teymur Bakhtiar, who was replaced by General Hassan Pakravan in 1961 and later assassinated on the Shah's orders.
Pakravan was replaced in 1965 by General Nematollah Nassiri, a close associate of the Shah, and the service was reorganized and became increasingly active in the face of rising Islamic and Communist militancy and political unrest.
Teymur Bakhtiar was assassinated by SAVAK agents in 1970, and Mansur Rafizadeh, SAVAK's United States director during the 1970s, reported that General Nassiri's phone was tapped.
