		Teymur Bakhtiar (ØªÛÙÙØ± Ø¨Ø®ØªÛØ§Ø± in Persian) (1914â“1970) was an Iranian general and the founder and head of SAVAK from 1958 to 1961, when he was dismissed by the Shah.

		Bakhtiar was appointed its first director, only to be dismissed in 1961, allegedly for organizing a coup; he was assassinated in 1970 under mysterious circumstances, probably on the shah's direct order.

		Bakhtiar was born in 1914 to Sardar Moazzam Bakhtiari, a chieftain of the eminent Bakhtiari tribe.

		Its first director was General Teymur Bakhtiar, who was replaced by General Hassan Pakravan in 1961 and later assassinated on the Shah's orders.
		Pakravan was replaced in 1965 by General Nematollah Nassiri, a close associate of the Shah, and the service was reorganized and became increasingly active in the face of rising Islamic and Communist militancy and political unrest.
