Tha Carter II - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tha Carter II is the fifth album by rap artist Lil Wayne, released in December 2005.
In relation to the album, "tha Carter" is interpreted as Lil Wayne's building, crackhouse, or castle as a physical symbol for Lil Wayne's dynasty.
It should also be noted that "tha Carter" was released under the Cash Money Records label and Nino Brown and his clique in New Jack City was known as the CMB or Cash Money Brothers.

Tha Carter was built on Mannie's beats and Wayne's newfound flow; Mannie laying the foundation to this complex, and Wayne building from there with his rhymes.
While Tha Carter was a great release, Wayne sounded a bit too comfortable flowing over the beats Mannie produced; changing his enviorment like he did on this release brought out the best in Wayne.
Tha Carter II is Wayne's first album since Mannie Fresh left, and it kinda shows.

Tha Carter II has a couple of songs that are better, but overall, this ones my favorite.
carter 2 is out and is in fact better than this album as a whole, but lacks the "oooh, did you hear what he just said?" factor that "bm jr" brings to this disc.

Lil Wayne - Tha Carter II Although there has been much debate on the subject of who is or who isn't the "King of the South," Lil Wayne isn't worried about all the fuss as to who really lays claim to the title.
Approaching Tha Carter II with the skills of a scientist, Lil Wayne dug through the vaults of his own material in order to analyze his distinct style.
With Tha Carter II, Lil Wayne proves himself more than a contender to the throne, because this winner is already wearing the crown.

'Tha Carter 2' is a complete effort and though I feel this is a classic, Wayne speaks a bit too quick with making claims to be the best now.

2 builds on the Lil Wayne of the first Carter, the Lil Wayne who was not only cocky, but also truly confident, confident enough to loosen up his rhymes and create a winning mixture of slick baller posturing and slippery flippancy.
If the first Carter found him somewhere between a crazed Silkk the Shocker and a thuggish Devin the Dude, the excellent follow-up finds him more toward the latter.
Lyrical triumphs like the epic "Tha Mobb" and the pimp-hand-showing "Receipt" seal the deal, leaving only the short, ignorable skits and the fl-on-red printing in the liner notes to complain about (the latter is hell on the eyeballs).

 IGN: Tha Carter II Review
As advertised, Tha Carter II follows up on the successes of the first, a style that has deviated from his much humbler beginnings.
There's no question the hunger for success that Wayne showed earlier in his career is a not-so-distant memory, but that doesn't prevent the New Orleans native from punishing the mic with hard-hitting verbal tenacity.
Tha Carter II is Wayne at his most focused and is a strong next step for a relatively young career.

Dwayne Michael Carter was born an only child in the poverty-stricken and crime-ridden Hollygrove section of New Orleans, which is part of the 17th Ward.
On November 11, 2005 Wayne released Tha Carter II which further solidified his spot as a contemporary rapper, noticeably producing the album without the prominent beats of Mannie Fresh.
Tha Carter II sold more than 238,000 copies debuting at no. 2 on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart and has been certified platinum.

Wayne's already a legend to his fans, and "Tha Carter II" won't dissapoint them, especially given it comes with an extensive bonus disc of Screwed and Chopped hits from his lengthy catalogue of hits.

A one-time member of New Orleans's Hot Boys, rapper Lil Wayne attained a new level of confidence and skill on 2004's THA CARTER.
That album featured only a few guest shots (as opposed to typically star-studded hip-hop records), and this 2005 sequel once again keeps things focused on Wayne, with the MC flying solo on almost every track.

Granted, Leno won't make "Shooter" Wayne's "song" (it will be though), and we definitely can't call Tha Carter II his coming-of-age album or something equally corny-- people blew that line on the one before.
Lead track "Tha Mobb" really lays the audience/methodology/goals stuff on thick: For five minutes, no chorus, sad piano, he does it for "the gangstas and the bitches, the hustlers and the hos." Crossover?

"The Carter 2" starts off with a wicked 5 and a half minute, no chorus track entitled "Tha Mobb" where Lil Wayne sounds like he is freestyling over a Heatmakerz track.
Then the 3 part track which includes "Fly In", Track 13, "Carter 2" and "Fly Out", I was amazed by how Lil Wayne is basically rapping which appear to be freestyle rhymes.
There are times where the metaphors that he uses aren't as strong as the others and there will be times when you hear a song with tight lyrics and wonder how the track would have sounded with a Mannie Fresh beat.

This change is definitely welcomed, as Tha Carter II is arguably the best Cash Money release in the label's long history.
Weezy even goes off for five minutes straight on "Tha Mobb," as The Heatmakerz lace the track with their usual combination of window shattering drums and a soulful vocal sample.
While most of The Carter II is consumed with braggadocios rhymes - all of which are dope - Weezy still has room to grow and offer more variety and conceptual material.

There are no big-name guest stars (as with Petey Pablo's memorable turn on Wayne's previous album), only recurring shots from producer Mannie Fresh and Cash Money head Bryan "Baby" Williams.
Lil' Wayne's easy flow speaks for itself; in a relaxed Southern manner, he waits for the rhyme to unfold before unleashing a torrent of lyrical lines, with consistent, understated beats pulling the tracks along.
Not as "lil'" as his name implies, Wayne hits a peak with "This Is the Carter," a brash track that captures the essence of this potent hip-hop album.

It would be easy to read too much into the title of Lil Wayne's fourth album, especially in light of a mixtape (cunningly titled The Prefix) that preceded this, which featured the MC over a handful of tracks off Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter's Black Album.
The title actually refers to Lil Wayne's actual last name (hint: it isn't Wayne), in addition to referencing the apartments run by Wesley Snipes' character in New Jack City.

VIBE.com: Lil' Wayne - Tha Carter (Cash Money/Universal)
He uncorks witty punch lines on “Cash Money Millionaires,” “Hoes,” and “This Is the Carter,” where he beckons, “I’m sorta like BD, y’all can’t stop my dribble nor block the layup.” But on “I Miss My Dawgs,” Weezy is convincingly wistful, kicking reconciliatory rhymes to former partners B.G., Juve, and Turk.
But overall, The Carter serves true fiends, especially when Mannie Fresh’s sonic backdrops find the musical groove, as on the ebullient, brassy “Get Down” and the electric funk–driven “Ain’t That a Bitch.” Though Wayne may feel like a lone soldier, Cash Money is still an army, better yet a navy.
