ATRA: Library: The Primitive Ridgeback   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
The Thai Ridgeback is believed to be mutated from the original Thai dog (which has almost identical appearance except the ridge), since the Ridgeback has been found intermixed in the natural population of the original breed.
The Thai dog is a muscular light-medium Pariah, belongs to the Spitz and Primitive Group under FCI classification.
This justified the name 'Thai Ridgeback.' The area with most population of the breed was the eastern fishing ports of Thailand; thus, it was probably a fisherman who took the dog to the islands of Thailand's neighboring countries.

Sassana Sakon and the New Asian American: Intermarriage and Identity at a Thai Buddhist Temple in Silicon Valley
The present study draws attention to a phenomenon hitherto unexamined by the fields of Asian American Studies and the study of Buddhism in America: the emergence of interracial/interreligious families among Thai Americans.

 Thai Language Learning Framework
Most students are of Thai heritage who were born in the U.S. Most of them knew only the Thai used in their household and family; some knew only how to say "hello" and "thank you." But those who are admitted in the introductory Thai class are illiterate or almost illiterate in Thai.
Because Thai is both a tonal language and one that employs an Indic-derived alphabet that attempts to preserve etymological spellings, it surly ranks as one of the more time-consuming languages, one that requires thousands of hours of exposure and practice.
The earlier goal of learning Thai in the U.S. was not necessarily for scholarly purposes but rather to enable students being trained in the language to function in everyday situations and assignments in, for example, the U.S.embassy or military, the Peace Corps, or as a graduate student conducting field research in the social sciences.

Thai for Beginners compares learning Thai to learning a language written in Roman script and finds that the difficulty of learning Thai stems primarily from the peculiarities of Thai script.
In Thai for Beginners, Becker posits three potential reasons for why "the Thai language grows increasingly more important" and why Thai is "a language well worth learning": Thailand's status as "a favorite vacation paradise," its position as "one of the world's fastest growing economies," and "the Thai people's legendary friendliness" (4).
