| | THAI MUSIC HOMEPAGE |
 | | A group of Thai people called thai naw-i, who migrated directly southward and settle in the area of sipsawn-gjuthai, later spread out and established several kingdoms in the nothern path of the Indo-China peninsula, two of which were yo-nok or la-nna and la-n cha-ng. |
 | | The first Thai musical instruments mentioned above were undoubtedly used for the most part for signals or to fix the time, particularly the graw, gro-ng, khaw-ng, and glaw-ng, while the others-grap, chap, ching, khlui, phia, saw and khae-n- were used for musical entertainment. |
 | | From this contact the Thai created the several new kinds of musical instruments such as the phi-n, sang, pi-chanai,bandaw, grajappi, jakhay and tho-n which are mentioned in the"traiphumphrarua-ng", one of the first books in written Thai, and on the "sila-ja-rerk", a stone engraving from the time of King ra-mkhamhae-nh, c.1283 A.D., of the su-kho-thai period. |
