Thales - Hutchinson encyclopedia article about Thales
Thales explained such events as earthquakes in terms of natural phenomena, rather than in the usual terms of activity by the gods.
Aristotle records that, when he was reproached for being impractical, Thales, having predicted that weather conditions the next year would be conducive to a large olive harvest, bought up all the olive presses in Miletus and exploited his monopoly to make a large profit.
In five fundamental propositions Thales laid down the foundations on which classical geometry was raised.

Thales lived and was born in the city of Miletus (Greek: Μίλητος transliterated Miletos, Turkish: Milet) an ancient city on the western coast of Anatolia (in what is now the Aydin Province of Turkey), near the mouth of the Maeander River.
Thales’ political life had mainly to do with the involvement of the Ionians in the defense of Anatolia against the growing power of the Iranians, who were then new to the region.
Thales was said to be able to predict eclipses and fix the solstices, which abilities made him a very useful man in business and politics.

In service on the Rafale is the Thales Spectra (Système de Protection, d'Évitement et de Contre-mesure du Rafale) integrated electronic warfare suite provides long-range detection, identification and accurate localisation of electromagnetic, infrared and laser threats.
Thales and Eads have won a contract worth the equivalent of $ 120 million for threat warning equipment which will be installed in Eurocopter Tiger and NH90 helicopters for European and Australian customers.
The equipment consists of a Thales radar warner and an Eads laser warning receiver and will be complemented by an MBDA Saphir-M decoy system, of which more than 500 were ordered at the beginning of September in what the company claimed was largest single contract placed for such a system in Europe.

  Rafale, Dassault-Breguet
The Thales RBE2 radar is of the passive electronically-scanned-array (ESA) type, like the B-1's Northrop Grumman APQ-164, with a single power source, transmitter, receiver, and a physically fixed array of phase-shifter modules to steer the beam.
Earlier this year, Thales and European missile-builder MBDA disclosed that they were working on active-cancellation technology for cruise missiles and had already tested it on a small unmanned aerial vehicle, using a combination of active and passive techniques to manage radar signature.
Dassault, Thales, and Snecma have no doubts that the Rafale embodies world-class technology, and its failure to secure export orders is clearly a source of frustration, as evidenced by Dassault's attempt to file a lawsuit against the Korean government following Korea's choice of the F-15.

SPECTRA includes radar, laser, and missile warning sensors, along with active jamming and four chaff-flare dispensers, and can automatically identify and categorize threats and take the necessary defensive actions.
It appears that Thales has been working on "active cancellation" technology for the SPECTRA system, with the jamming transmitters picking up a hostile radar and then feeding back the signals out-of-phase to cancel out the echo from the aircraft.
In the summer of 2004, Thales was awarded a contract to develop an AESA antenna, with a demonstrator flying by the fall of that year.

History of astronomy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
At the end of the 19th century it was discovered that, when decomposing the light from the Sun, a multitude of spectral lines were observed (regions where there was less or no light).
Experiments with hot gases showed that the same lines could be observed in the spectra of gases, specific lines corresponding to unique elements.
It was proved that the chemical elements found in the Sun (chiefly hydrogen and helium) were also found on Earth.

Thales of Miletus (625?-546?BC) was a natural philosopher who investigated the nature of matter and the universe in all its states.
While no writings by Thales exist, he is said to have predicted a solar eclipse in 585 BC, which so frightened the Medes and Lydian armies engaged in battle that the warring factions ceased fighting and made peace.
On the Greek stamp at left Thales is commemorated as the discoverer of static electricity generated when a piece of amber is rubbed with fur: it is then able to attract light objects such as straw or feathers.

THALES accepts a script which encodes the structure and the local-geometry data for each fragment of a larger molecule.
The direct couplings are determined by analysing HR-NMR spectra of the molecule, dissolved in an axially oriented liquid crystal (using the packages NMRIT or STREAK).
Since we have used it to calculate the spectra of partially oriented molecules, however, we had to include also direct coupling constants and, given the general complexity of such spectra, exploits as much as possible everything that can simplify the calculations (notably weak couplings and symmetry).

Earlier this year (2002), Thales and European missile-builder MBDA disclosed that they were working on active-cancellation technology for cruise missiles and had already tested it on a small unmanned aerial vehicle, using a combination of active and passive techniques to manage radar signature.
This said, I wouldn't be surprised if DGA and Thales had decided a long (like, 20 years) time ago to put their money on active cancellation rather than passive stealth.
The beast was rather expensive and unwieldy, requiring extensive fixed installations, but it would work: the idea was simply to blast the signal to the stratosphere and check which bursts returned and wich ones didn't.
